"The Trial" with explanation

I don't think I have posted this song yet, if I have, I blame it on old age.

Brief background, about 2 years ago my left hand became intimately familiar with my tablesaw. I broke all 5 fingers, two pretty severely. The doctor was able to save them, but my middle finger and thumb can  only move at the joint nearest the palm. Otherwise, they are stiff. My other fingers have sections that are numb.  I have played guitar, not great but got by, for most of my life and now I am unable to play most rock bar chords and have to compromise on some open string chords. Part of my rehabilitation has been trying to learn to play bass guitar.  This song is a result of my early efforts. I will warn you, it is a Dirge. I try to create fast rock songs, but always end up trying to be slow and atmospheric.  I appreciate the listen and any feedback.

I used a soft synth for the drone notes and the sound effx, the bass is a Glarry Short Scale bass with a modified pickup. (there are two bass lines, the lead intro and a drone background). The guitar is a kit guitar I purchased from Guitar Fetish and built and is the one in the thumbnail. If you read this far, I thank you for your interest.

As Ross said,well done for getting back to making music.

whilst nowhere near as bad as your experience, I had an issue when I badly broke my thumb and had to have a lot of operations - at the time I was very in to finger picking style guitar, but after all the operations and still to this day, i can't really do it like I used to - so like yourself, I found a different style!!

I like the spacey sullen vibe. Enjoyed it. Good luck with your rehab. A guitar player friend was riding his mountain bike and a car coming in the opposite direction got his hand with the rear view mirror as it passed another oncoming vehicle not seeing him at all and he lost some fingers. He went on to become a hand therapist. It’s a trial alright to experience some of the losses and unwelcome changes in life. Keep up the good work !

My worst nightmare involves me being sloppy on the table saw.  It's a fear that amplifies as I get older.  Congrats on winning the battle and continuing on.  I like your song, sounds really nice. Keep on keeping on!

I'm a big fan of dirges and this is a good one.  To be honest, it sounded less like a dirge than a somber movie score. Your technique sounds pretty darned good! Nice, clean notes and I don't think I heard a single clank in there. But overall, the mix was lovely and it is an engaging piece, mission accomplished!

Here's another medical story. Arthritis damaged my left hand and I had surgery which helped but I still can't hold a  chord for very long. It is getting better with exercise so just have to keep at it.

KevinWalsh, I appreciate the comment on my mix. I have limited options to monitor the mix and have tried to keep them clean, not too muddled. Also, since I am trying to rehabilitate, I am working real hard on keeping my guitar fingerwork clean and crisp. It is not easy because arthritis is also starting to affect finger movement.
