Does the new 'Cakewalk Sonar' not have the ability to have more than one project open at the same time like 'Cakewalk by Bandlab' did or have I missed something somewhere

Check the status of the Preference > File > Advanced > [ ] Allow only one project open at a time

Just out of curiosity, what would be the reason for requiring that only one project be opened at one time?

Memory limitation, i.e. a machine with only 8 gig of RAM with two projects both using large sample libraries of even as small as 3 gig each. The OS takes around 4, plus the 6 from the projects is 10 not including the projects themselves. I suspect there would be some disk thrashing if you kept swapping between projects.

Whilst most people have larger RAM amounts some people still use machines with only 8gig.

It’s a good option for people like me who often work on groups of projects that I might be accessing using Windows Explorer.

I just want to have a quick listen. 
 

It saves a move when you have a project open and you are now are finished listening to it and go to open the next project from explorer. The old project will close automatically. 

The new project preview option on the start screen seems to only works on projects that have been opened and saved.

Thanks. I often copy some material from one project to another, so toggling back and forth saves time from having to load a project multiple times. I have 96 gb ram, so likely why there have been no issues.

Its not an option Ive ever amended so Im guessing its either new in Sonar or the default action was changed

Yes!

Its much better to default to only having one project open because people forget and open multiple projects when they dont intend to.
If you end up opening 10 or 20 large projects then It will start paging to virtual memory and slow things down, potentially cause playback glitches etc.
