Project previews

Hi,

I recall reading about project previews being one of the new features in Sonar (audio previews of in progress projects from the start screen), but I cannot find anything related to that anywhere. The documentation menu item in Sonar links to the old SONAR docs, which obviously won't have info on new features. Is this a new feature or was it part of a beautiful dream 🙃? Thanks.

This is available from the Start Screen. Without opening a project, you can preview by clicking the little play icon

I haven't used it, so I looked it up in the Cakewalk Sonar Reference Guide. In the current manual it's described beginning on page 60.

Thanks - that isn't the reference guide that opens from Sonar's Help/Documentation menu item - that menu item takes you to a website for legacy Cakewalk documentation.

Thanks Bristol_Jonesy, I sees you need to create the preview when exporting. Not sure why the new Sonar would link to the old Sonar's help docs when new help docs exist.

FYI: You can also get to the Cakewalk Sonar Reference Guide from the forum. (See below.) I assume that the in-app / online documentation link and web pages might be in the process of being reworked.  So I tend to use the Reference Guide itself. It is readily available (and has been for some time.)

If you prefer web-based documentation over manuals / guides, there's also an elaborate Help System accessible through https://help.cakewalk.com/hc/en-us.

Hope these additional avenues to access information help.

I've never had to create a preview while exporting.

The play icons appear whether the project has been exported or not

Ref. Guide does

Bounce to Track(s) will also generate a preview file because it uses mostly the same code as Export. I have not seen a preview be available in the absence of one of those two events. A lot of my projects continue to be MIDI only while in progress and don't have previews until I bounce the Master bus to a 'Master Bounce' track.

Hey, you're right. Never noticed that before. Live & learn eh?
