Gary Lehmann
Hi-- Longtime Cakewalk user (DOS!), first time posting here. The notes in the staff view are boxes! What file do I need to have to restore a normal staff view?
msmcleod
The notes in the staff view are actually a custom font, so what you describe sounds like the font hasn't installed properly. Check you've not got any restrictions on your Windows user account preventing custom font installation, and try re-installing Sonar.
Gary Lehmann
I looked thru all the fonts on my system, didn't see any likely suspects. I am reluctant to uninstall and reinstall, after having arranged things. Is the font available to download? There doesn't seem to be a way to access it from Sonar--not in the Staff View Layout window.
msmcleod
The font it uses is "TtsNote Standard Regular" - it should be in C:\Windows\Fonts. It's not available separately for download.
sjoens
TTSNOTE.TTF if you're searching file names. edit: Although when I open it all I see is symbols and squares - no notes, so I'm curious how notes are actually drawn. Gary Lehmann
Thanks for your help! I found the font here: https://www.fontyukle.net/font/TtsNote-Standard#google_vignette Notes now display properly in staff window. Problem solved!

Also interesting that this issue seems to come up every 10 yrs. or so. Web search found forum posts from 2005, 2015, and now 2025. 🤔 tho I'm sure there were others. My guess is Sonar didn't install properly. As Mark said, reinstalling Sonar would probably fix it.
