Is it possible to install two different versions of Cakewalk ?

If you're talking about CbB v Sonar Free tier then yes, they can be installed side by side.

But with CbB you're living on borrowed time. Activation will no longer be possible sometime after August 1st

If you're talking about Sonar Free tier vs Sonar Premium then I'd like to know how he did this when both versions are tied to one Bandlab account.

Please clarify what versions you mean

Please take the time to read the current collection of posts here that clearly explain the current situation with Cakewalk.
Simple answer is Cakewalk is discontinued and you have 4 options.
1- Use Sonar FreeTier

2- buy a membership and use the full version of Sonar

3- Switch to another Daw

4- Use a legacy version of Sonar like Platinum

Different products can co-exist, e.g. Cakewalk SONAR Platinum; Cakewalk By Bandlab, and the new Sonar.

Different Tiers of new Sonar can be accessed providing you maintain two Bandlab accounts, one with an associated premium subscription, and one "normal" user. Then you can sign out/in as different Bandlab users to compare the differences between Premium and Free Tier.

If you install the latest UPDATE to any of the products mentioned above, then that is the version you are able to use, short of re-installing the previous update.

My Tech guy recently by accident installed the update and now I have less options. Can a different version be installed, not deleting updated version. And still be able to use all the plugins  ?

All the plugins installed should be available in all versions of the Cakewalk applications, as I understand it.

On the same machine, no, just set your vst folders in prefs

Yes same machine . As a follow up , I would assume that I would lose ( not be able to work with , unless using cakewalk ) anything created in cakewalk due too their .cwp file type ? Or is it possible ( as a work around ) to open in cakewalk, copy/paste - tracks -  into new DAW, and manually copy all vst settings used in said project ?
