jeffikonian
I still have Sonar X1, Sonar Professional, and CbB installed. With regard to installing Cakewalk Sonar, does it matter if I either leave them in place or uninstall them? Should I do one or the other? I just want to be sure Cakewalk Sonar will find my files and plugins and not have any conflicts. Windows 11 Thank you!
Pragi
That can't be answered in general, because it depends on whether you installed the included plugins when installing the individual program versions or not. As far as I know, CbB doesn't have any plugins on board that aren't included in the other two program versions you listed, so you could uninstall them. The question is, since the core of each installation is relatively small, is the risk of uninstalling them worth it? Perhaps it would be a good idea to simply remove the two programs from the desktop?
sjoens
You'll be fine either way. They all install separately in their own folders but do share some common files. At one time I had SONAR 8, X1 thru SPlat, CbB and Sonar all installed. When doing this, make sure the newest version is installed last so older files don't overwrite newer ones. Bristol_Jonesey
I'd be very wary of uninstalling older versions. You don't know a) what dependencies you might break, or b) what shared plugins might no longer be available.
Billy86
I’m have both sonar and CbB installed and haven’t had any problems.
John Vere
We are advised that it is best to install each version from the oldest version to the newest. So to get certain legacy plug ins I start with bare bones installation of 8.5, and then X3. Then I run CCC and install Platinum and any plugins I might need. That’s become much less now after discovering better plugins from other developers. Buy then I will have all the stock plugins that are included with CbB and new Sonar. Like Sonitus and SI instruments. Boost 11. Those plug ins have never been updated since 8.5. I avoid anything 32 bit. The basic programs don’t use much space on a modern hard drive. I never bother with any additional content as that does take up space. Warning- Do not ever install Sonar Home Studio! I found out the hard way that the folder it created is identical to New Sonar. Back in those days the folders were named with Platinum, Professional and Artist? but Home studio was just called Sonar. I basically was forced to re install my OS to clean it up. jeffikonian Posted yesterday at 05:41 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 05:41 AM The consensus seems to be to leave everything intact and install Sonar on top of them. That's what I will do. Thank you!

Thank you! Provided you have installed each variations core in its default location, then the new Sonar will install in a parallel directory in the Cakewalk tree. When it first starts it will ask you if you wish to migrate your settings i.e. project directory, audio settings, etc to the new Sonar. If you agree it will then migrate your custom settings, scan you plugins both VST & VST3. If you use custom plugin list you may need to copy those to the appropriate directory
