I know that new isn't necessarily better, but It was looking dated to me. I don't like having to switch back to CbB for certain tasks. Fair enough. But if the 3D realistic look is dated then color me dated. I love looking at true to life type mixing board & effects controls. The 2D looks cheaped down and artificial to me. Of course, my opinion doesn't matter anyway. I'm just whining Krupa. Can't a grown man whine anymore?! 😫 1
John Vere
Simple things like the record button. I don’t know how many times I’ve hit the solo or mute buttons instead!! That just seems wrong. I’ve used this software since 2005 and my muscle memory should know where the tracks recording button is but now it’s elusive.  Possibly my biggest problem is that the PVR is so dark I can’t see the lines so I make mistakes. I have to switch to the Mercury theme to work efficiently in PVR. Then the Track view now looks like 1998. I miss Scooks custom themes. I almost get the impression that there’s only a bare bones development staff working on this. It has been 2 years and very little has happened.  If Cakewalk users demo the new Sonar and hate the graphics just like the rest of us did 2 years ago it will be a hard sell. I just slowly kinda got used to the shortfalls and stopped thinking about it but this thread reminds me of my first impressions.

mrneil2
Any idea on the number of people who have tried the Evaluation Sonar and gone back to physically using CbBl for day to day operations?  Would be interesting to know.
Colin Nicholls
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. It's the Internet, I get that. *sigh* The "soft launch" refers to the "Free Tier" which has been available for just over a week or so, I think. Â Â

Mr No Name
just logged in to Cakewalk , and an orange box appeared "try the new free tier or our new discounted offer of $49 dollars" no free tier anywhere, just the subscription offer. why bother, it's just taking the customers for idiots. if you have a box that you ask people to press for something you advertise, have the thing you offer on the other bloody side of it.

When and if there is a full license I will buy Sonar of which I was a beta tester for Roland, I want to own the instruments I use Greetings p.s.  Up until 5 years ago I considered Sonar the best Pro DAW on the market overall Edited June 29 by GIM Productions

CbB came out over 6 years ago. IMO, it improved a great deal over the years, up until the point that development on it stopped. Do you mean that 5 years ago another DAW surpassed it? 1

This is the Bane of many Daw’s. I like the story of Traction/ Waveform. It was bought by Mackie ( Loud Industries) they killed it. but the original developer Julian Storer bought it back and still owns it.  Best thing that could happen to Sonar is that a small independent company took it over and put together a full crew including web page design, education and marketing.  It makes me nervous that Fender now owns that Daw that a lot of us have started using. They too tried Subscriptions and backed off.  All we want to do is make music! It all makes me want to dust off my Yamaha MD8 8 track machine.

Why don't you just do what your last phrase says ? Make Music. I would argue Sonar has now exceded its former glory, its better than ever, certainly versus the Gibson fiasco. Been there, lived it, moved on BTW. Sheesh, your posts are getting a little repetitive John, go back to what you do best, helping people. I have a Yamaha MT8X and the cost of decent type II cassettes is just as crazy - around $20 - $25 for a new/old stock Maxell XL-IIS 60 or 90. The surprising thing is that when you account for inflation, they're actually more or less comparable to what they cost back in the day.
