Sonar 2025.06 Feedback

Recommended Posts

I have a weird copy/paste glitch in a project as follows:

In the PRV with Auto Focus on,  if I copy a selected note from focused track switch the focus to another track for the paste using Paste Special. it list the starting track as the copy track, if then I cancel the paste special and immediately open Paste Special again it then shows the correct focused copy track.

Strange & inconvenient,  as it means for the project I can't safely use Ctrl-C  on the copy track which correctly copies followed by  Ctrl-V for the focused paste track.

Somehow this is project related  as it is not typical behavior,  but what's causing it?

Incidentally this problem also occurs for the project when opened in CbB...

I miss the feature that Cakewalk / Bandlab has in the startup screen. The ability to show PLAT LIST SET files. This is very handy for grouping projects together and for live performance.image.thumb.png.8413043053cd28794d23d8a93a063b5e.png

Agree. I also think it’s more convenient this way. Moreover, more projects fit this way.

Hi, I see a new tab "Browse Bandlab Sounds" in the browser panel, but there is no content, it is just a blank. Is this the new Bandlab sounds integration? How do I populate it? Screenshot2025-06-28141115.png.e9ed7b68396a0215a2dcf0601c322350.png

Yes, I have spent some time anonymising the track here , but this project still shows the problem.

I removed the audio tracks that were originally there but not removed any fx FWIW.

I wanted to include a version where the midi  has been frozen to audio but it's too large to attach - you can try freezing else let me know how to send that on.

I think you will find, that if you start removing take lanes, the playback will begin after shorter time the more that you remove. I think also flattening the midi comp will help too.

I hope this helps find a solution.

regards,

Paul

JFYI 2025.06 update1 (build48) still shows this issue

I'm not sure if this is new to the latest version, but every time I switch tabs in the Browser, it buries the synth rack.

I remember reading that work had been done on the browser with this update, so I'm not sure if this is the intended behavior. I would really prefer that the browser tabs all stay the same size and not cover up the synth rack.

Or maybe I'm missing something?

This is expected behavior and is how it works from the prior version. The browser now auto focuses the currently selected tab and minimizes the other docked views. This is to make better use of the limited real estate available in the vertical docked section. You can now double click the header of the synth rack to restore it.

When considering to subscribe to Sonar, I discovered in the latest version that color options are much limited, for example changing the color of events in the event list seems to have disappeared.

Also, in the notation editor, Sonar still does not display tied and dotted triplets correctly.

As far as the colors, are these options going to be returned?  As far as the notation editor, will this bug ever be addressed?

Thanks,

Jerry

Garbage in the Audio Folder:

After a bounce to tracks, even if the project is not saved there are garbage wav files that have to be manually deleted and typically they are of the same size as the bounced track hogging storage with names like:

 b6365ed7-c7bd-4c51-842e-aa83510dd82a.wav

b6365ed7-c7bd-4c51-842e-aa83510dd82a-aaf4056f1032fed006d8ff75ccb60f7f.wav

This did not happen  with a single instrument midi track test project so it's not typical behavior. but

for the project where it occurred  in Sonar when the same project was opened and bounced in CbB  this did not happen....

Yes, clearly an issue with buffering the 130 (!) active lanes of MIDI on Track 4, compounded by all the split and slip-edited clips. Apply Trimming pretty much eliminates the issue. If you were to simply disable Non-Destructive MIDI Editing, I think you would not encounter this issue. Having it enabled means you effectively double the number of MIDI events that Sonar has to manage every time you split a clip.

Start Screen Issue:

When Sonar is opened for the first time in a windows session the Start Screen is non-functional, Sonar has to be closed & reopened before the Start Screen functions normally. This maybe system related I wouldn't know.

Those files are used by the Project Preview function of the Start Screen. Per the documentation they are created by default the first time you export; it doesn't mention bouncing, but Export and Bounce use the same code. This default preview creation will only happen once and the two files will initially have the same content; after that, the file with the longer name will be replaced with a copy of the exported/bounced file only if you pro-actively check the "Include Project Preview' box  in the Mix and Render section. I'm not sure why, exactly, but the file with the shorter name seems to be kept indefinitely as an archive of the first export/bounce you perform while the file with the longer name will be the one that plays when you click the Project Preview playback.

It's been requested previously to have control over the maximum length of the preview file as this can get to be an issue for users who work with hours-long recordings. For typical song-length projects, the extra space used isn't a huge deal, but I would probably opt to limit previews to 30 seconds myself, and not have one created by default.

Once again thanks for the explanation, but closing the project without saving should get rid of all bounce generated files,  only the bounce gets deleted while the "preview" lingers, that can't be right and as I stated "This did not happen  with a single instrument midi track test project so it's not typical behavior" this is an anomalous glitch and the cause is a mystery to me...

I can also report similar behavior on my system, even after the newest update. -On my system, the first open after the initial 2025 06 install, the start screen froze, so I quit Sonar entirely, and reopened. Since then, the start screen will randomly have a blank list in the "recent" projects list, until I open one (from the "browse" option, or the file menu (which properly has all the MRU projects listed). Not huge enough to ask for support, but we probably aren't the only ones having this happen. FWIW. 😬

Please add the capacity to change the colors of the events in the Event List, as every other version of Sonar & Cakewalk has had.   More color options in general would be a welcome addition, as in the tradition of all past versions of Sonar & Cakewalk.

Please fix the bug in the Notation Editor where tied & dotted triplets do not display correctly.

Thanks,

Jerry
