Are you using Cakewalk by Bandlab? The vertical line that moves with your mouse sounds like Aim Assist Line, which can be toggled on and off with the x key. The only other vertical line I am aware of is the Now Time Marker. Try pressing the x key to see how that affects your project.

My cat walked on the keyboard!  Now, I have Two Vertical lines.  I've tried everything to make it go away.

What's the secret??

Have your cat walk the same path across the keyboard in reverse??  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do both lines look the same or move together or is one stationary?

Over the years I have sometimes had a phantom (non-functional) vertical transport cursor/line that I have suspected was the result of a re-drawing glitch. I haven't seen this as much as I used to, but today yesterday it happened.  I had the DAW open for several hours while I did other things including being inactive on the computer.  So, the phantom line might have resulted from a Windows sleep or power saving function that didn't get restored properly when  redrawn.

Yes!!  Also, when you minimize the DAW does the line stay on the desktop?  Sometimes that happened with what I have been describing. (Also, does it stay in the same place when you switch screensets, workspace, or change DAW UI Modules?

Example (phantom non-functional cursor on top of a synth plugin that I just assume was the result of a re-drawing issue):

Now that one is interesting. Back in the day you could actually watch SONAR paint itself with a fast enough machine (each child window would draw). That looks "almost" like the Now Time from the Track View is still being drawn on top even though the Track View is hidden, but more likely a re-draw issue since it is not functional.

From the OP's description, it sounds like he has duplicate Aim Assist lines in play (they both follow his mouse), but not sure. I picture would definitely help there.

For either draw issue, closing/re-opening Cakewalk should probably fix it.

Or a system reboot.

The Now Time Line isn't retreating when another view overlaps it.  Most likely a graphical redraw issue.  I would report it if it persists, but if it only happens occasionally it may be a system glitch.  I've seen a form of this in every version of SONAR, the worst being once when Console View failed to load the knobs and faders.

So there was a ghosting Aim Assist Line issue when switching views in CbB.  It would also linger on screen after CbB was closed.  It was addressed once but not remedied as it still occurs occasionally in CbB.

To avoid this, do one of the following before switching views:

1. Either move the mouse/Aim Assist Line to the far left or leave it mid screen.

2. Hit the X key to turn Aim Assist Line off.
