Pathfinder
Wanting a laptop (my present one is 16 yrs old running W8.1) I only record 1 track ata time and really want it mostly for using CWBL and playing back and editing. I use all VSTS, except for my vocals, electric and acoustic guitars. My present laptop, old, is an Asus i7 and has lasted 16 long years but really not sufficient and also will not take win 10 or 11. I really want a modern laptop. I am getting up in years and $$$ is not a big concern for me right now. I have been building my own desktops since, well forever it seems, but laptops, uh nope. I do prefer NVidia graphics, I know that raises the price but thats OK. I do like Asus products, but am open to suggestions Thanks very much for any ideas. mettelus
That is a good question. If not in a rush, sites like CyberpowerPC (linked to all their NVIDIA laptops) offer rolling sales on various products, so a little patience can save up to $400. Unlike their desktops, it seems their laptops are all pre-built, so there are no options to customize components (even the RAM capacity it seems), and it seems the default boards are Intel Raptor Lake HM770. If you have a specific component/build type your are seeking, a Google search on those will often cue in the vendors making them.
Pathfinder
I'll take a look-Thanks for the info. The only real strong options I must have are windows INTEL and an Nvidia graphics card, no intel or other graphics. Don't want a touchscreen either but I imagine most if not all have an option to disable the touchscreen
Jim Roseberry
There are other builders who assemble custom laptops. Some specialize doing so for DAW applications.

treesha
I wanted a newer asus too, loving the one I use, and when shopping I learned they now treat their laptops with an antimicrobial surface product and I don’t want that. I got a Lenovo on Black Friday but haven’t gotten around to switching to it yet.
rsinger
I bought an MSI gaming laptop three years ago and haven't had any problems with it. I use it as a secondary DAW, I have a tower as my main DAW. The laptop is also used for general computing and surfing the web. It has an intel processor and nvidia graphics. It's part of their Crosshair series. My DAW is from Jim, I recommend his products as well.

Hi Jim Yes I knew that. Always remember the great help you gave to so many of us way back when the forum had Glennbo and SusanG and others......... I believe my user name back then was either Stratster or Stratman with a number 🙂 Edited Tuesday at 04:43 AM by Pathfinder

pwalpwal
for your simple requirements you should consider a refurbished laptop, cost is much lower so you can spend the diff on something else (new interface?) plus considering the age of your current lappy anything more recent will seem like a beast! /havefun
