Dub- ish studio jam

I had to record earlier in the week because of some big studio changes (visible next week, but you can already see a bunch of cables in the background on the floor). So sadly no Inge to accompany me. But still a very cool result. I did manage to sneak in a snippet of her voice, looped and strechted for some vocal assistance. See if you can spot it (well, it's not that hard).

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Like audible bass instead of the more subby tones I use now?

i guess so, i found the melodic synths occupying the tune, the mid/higher range, and missed some "dub bass" iykwim - tbf not listening with a sub up here, "audible bass" is a good description (add some harmonics?) - but not to miss out the actual physical bass haha

good job 👍

Nice, makes me wonder how many of those toys are active during the song since I know nothing about your style of working. I do agree with pwallie about the low end. I guess I was coming to listen with the idea of dub as in the reggae dub sense of the word. So not that. But yeah some real heavy lows in your style would add to the range of the song. Big fan of lows here. Good luck with the new studio !

While a bit inspired by it, dub techno is quite different from the reggae dub. That is often very bass heavy stuff, while this kind of more chill dub techno is more about the sporadic placements of the elements and the (subtle) modulation of space elements (delay and reverb). So for instance I have an extra bass note playing, but only every 4 beats, while you would normally have that bass play every beat or even faster (1/4 or even 1/8).

New setup is coming along nicely. Everything is back in its place and almost everything is connected (again). But I still need to to do al lot of cable work because I'm switching to patchbays.

which artists are you thinking of?

There are lots,  Oora has an excellent video on it:

And this is a mix of very chill dub techno, check out the track somewhere in the middle, minute 34. Just very relaxed, elements come and go:
