Samuel Telson
Hi i am Samuel. I am using cakewalk couple of years for midi sequencing. I have SX700 arranger keyboard and i would like to use my user voice and drums (Expansion pack) that i created with Yamaha Expansion Manager. After searching on google i found that i have to add expansion sounds manually to instrument definition file. I have sx700 instrument definition file and how can i add expansion sound. I have another question that whenever i save a standard midi file in cakewalk and after reopening the project, its tempo and time signature changes at first bar. I checked that there is no automation on the tempo track. Is this issue related to midi clock? Please forgive me if I said anything incorrect
Wookiee
@Samuel Telson you can import instrument definition files through the Cakewalk plugin Manager, which can be found under utilities. You may find it beneficial to read the section on this in the reference guide as it is a deep topic.
Promidi
Preferences > MIDI > Instruments and click “Define”. I dialogue box will appear. You can import your sx700 instrument definition file there. See: http://legacy.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=CakewalkSonar&language=3&help=Instrument_Defs.03.html In regards tempo and time signature in MIDI files, these will be present when you open a MIDI file rather than importing them. There will always be an initial tempo and time signature. If there are no automation on the tempo track, then the initial tempo should show in the transport module. Samuel Telson
@WookieeThanks for your feedback. I have already added the instrument definition file. I am able to choose patch and bank select from the midi track. But my question is the instrument definition file only containing factory sounds and drumkits from yamaha. But i want to add my user expansion sounds to instrument definition file. So i can choose the expansion bank and patch from each individual midi track. Samuel Telson
@Promidi I only need to add my user sound to instrument definition. How can i edit instrument definition file and add my user sound with notepad? For example one of my user drumkit MSB,LSB and PC are #062,001,009 . Is there any way to add this? Thank you for your reply

You can "build" your own instrument definition .ini files in Notepad, I did this for my JV1080 expansion cards. If you open one of the example .ini files you can see the format and either edit one or create from scratch, I suggest try editing one. Is it a PITA yes but the effort is worth it in the end. Not sure if you are talking about are set, optional user expansions. If so, see if someone has created instrument definition files for them. If not or if you are talking about user presets you have created, you can edit the the instrument definition in a simple editor like Notepad. (I know there's a built-in tool, but I found editing hundreds of presets easier to enter by editing the file.) Also, maybe someone has written a patch librarian that creates instrument files from the presets currently in the gear. I am not sure about Yamahas, I mostly created my own for E-Mus (Proteus/Command Stations and Ultra Samplers).
Samuel Telson
@User 905133 Yeah i am talking about my preset voices and drums. I tried to edit in instrument definition file in notepad and add my drums but it is not showing my custom drum. Only showing SX700 factory voices and styles. If i open the project custom drums sounds are showing like bank 7937 and 7939. Is this means that i have to create a custom bank in instrument definition file and map LSB,MSB and PC in it?
