Stability of Cakewalk Sonar Compared to Bandlab

My question is this:  Is the new Sonar in its current state more stable than the current Bandlab free version?  I use current bandlab cakewalk a lot (and have been a regular Cakewalk user since 2010).   You may know what I'm talking about: the occasional out of the blue unpredictable lockup.  Yes, I know issues can come from errant VSTs.

One relationship I have noticed is the larger and more complex the song project, the more backups I better make.

If there is a noticeable improvement in overall stability in the new Sonar, then I'm all in.

Opinions from users who have gone from bandlab to Sonar ? Much appreciated!

@Rickddd all I can say is we have had 6 years of free updates to CbB,  much of the early days were to improve on stability.

Now with Sonar we are seeing considerable improvement in many areas, I suggest you search these forums and the Website to learn what has happened.

The final thought, no software is 100%, especially with PC hardware because there are so many variations of combination. Have I had a crash yes, was it Cakewalk,  no it was a plugin, yet to have a crash were the dump file said it was Sonar.

There is one software I am aware that is a stable as is possible, due to its requirements to be literally bomb proof. People writing that code get a day, yes a whole day, for every single line of code written. Most commercial software writers get 10 seconds per line.

Its vastly more stable with many hundreds of bug fixes and performance optimizations that CbB doesnt have.

I am also a steady cakewalk user. I went to school for audio and was taught on Protools..but I switched to cakewalk because in my opinion the work flow is so much more intuitive. Having said that, Sonar is vastly superior to cakewalk. They are really paying attention to the small details… something as small as having start and end markers…things overall just work smoother…. that’s why I have great faith in the direction of Sonar…it’s helping me forget about how Gibson handled it… my only criticism Is the look. But I am hopeful that will also improve. It’s more important right now to dial in the DAW, which they are doing exceptionally well.  Take the leap my friend. You will not be disappointed!

Thank you @Mark Morgon-Shaw, @John Faughey, @Wookiee!  I'm (now) In - much thanks for your strong endorsement of Sonar.

I couldn't believe how painless the install process was and how it perfectly brought my plug-ins over without a hitch.

As far as the looks are concerned, it could use a little color just to help the eyes navigate quicker. But I do like the cleanliness of it all.

THANK YOU !!!

Me too but I've found that the vertical grid lines are very difficult to see. I really hope that this will be addressed.

I bet it will be. They have a heavy focus on UI usability and it has paid off already.
