David Rossi
Putting the finishing touches on this mix before sending to my mastering guy. Anyone wanna pick it apart / lend tweaks? I can take it… (besides the heavy breathing on the acoustic track lol, this I’m aware of) Gone / The Underhills https://theunderhills.bandcamp.com/track/gone-2024 Edited Thursday at 01:09 PM by David Rossi
KSband
It's a nice track, like the song. The acoustic guitar sounds OK until the rest of the band comes in, then I find it distracting. It makes midrange strumming tones that fight with everything else. There is a lot of mid content in the song that makes the individual instruments not stand out. This is something I always wrestle with, making space for each thing.
KSband
Listen to @mark skinner's song "Dark Spanish Night" , he is really good at having a lot of busy parts going on but you can hear everything so clear.
AndyB01
Good song, love the ending - very Gretchen Peters - mix needs a bit more work as things are getting buried in there (especially the vocal). This is definitely worth the investment however and has the makings of a great track. Great vocals too btw. 👍 Andy

Omg yeah, the acoustic is on my main hit list for the weekend. The tone is actually quite good, it’s the pickup of the right hand strum that needs to be tamed, eq’d, and ducked. It is somewhat harsh in that it is all you hear once everyone comes in. The mic was a bit too close to the source and my right hand wasn’t quite as clean as I needed… thanks for the listen and comments!

mark skinner
Hey David , first impressions .. I quickly hit pause and got my good headphones knowing this was a Fantastic song. I love what you are doing on the acoustic and the energy of it. Vocals were Great with plenty of punch but still very smooth. I think you've written and performed this one Very well. If I were mixing this .. I would very slightly pan the snare a little further to the right if you can . I Really liked the acoustic guitar in the intro section . The tone was Great being on the edge of almoste "brittle" . I would just do an automated EQ reduction on the highs and reduce the volume a little when the other instruments come in. I thought the outro section with the acoustic sounded nice as it is . With my headphones the lead vocals also seemed to need some highs reduced. They were on the edge of needing some de-essing. That .. coupled with the acoustic got a little peircing. I don't know for sure what I would do to the lead guitar in the break but , I think it needs "something". I would for sure pan it a little more towards center and add a little more reverb to give it some more depth. Just my honest opinions after a couple of listens. Super Fantastic song and capture . I absolutely Love it .. mark
Wookiee
Most has probably been said, but it is hot for my taste, the snare sounds like it has had all the life squashed out of it. But if you are happy with it then... As noted above the mix needs some work, apologies.

I will definitely try to engage a few of these tweaks when I roll back to this tonight. 4 hours ago, Wookiee said: Most has probably been said, but it is hot for my taste, the snare sounds like it has had all the life squashed out of it. The drums are drums on demand so it’s really only a stereo field I get to work with: the compression is in the product. Only other compression is an SSL G on the master bus and it’s only like 2 to 4db of compression. There’s a slight L2 to push the volume for car listening until I can get it mastered but it’s not actually doing much. Thanks for the listen!! FreeEarCandy
I like the song. Vocals sounds real good. No really much I can add in the way of constructive advice to guide you any further than what has already been proposed in the comments above. Well done so far. Bajan Blue
Hi David Is there anyway you can post this somewhere other than drop Box - there was a massive security issue with Drop Box here some years ago, and we all deleted it and it comes up as suspect these days! Would love to listen to this Chjers Nigel

Would love to listen to this Chjers Nigel Sure Nigel… Posted it on our band camp temporarily which isn’t ideal because BC streaming is like mp3 quality but I did enable wav download https://theunderhills.bandcamp.com/track/gone-2024 Made some tweaks last night: * enabled a de-esser on the acoustic from the drums in until the outro to duck / reduce from 6.5k and above the harsh percussive strum. Seems to have tamed it… *rolled high end off acoustic and lead vox a little *cross delay on chorus harmonies to make them wash a little more * still need to increase vocal level on second half of verses as they seem to bury a little once the second rhythm guitar comes in * reduced overall loudness of track Edited Thursday at 01:27 PM by David Rossi
