I copied the link but where exactly do I paste it to? Do I need a certain player? I tried to paste it as a web search on both my phone and PC and I get nothing

Cheers folks, its an hmtl player, you copy/paste the link, a player opens up

That may happen for you locally, because it's on your  computer.

But it won't happen for anyone else that's not actually at your computer; the link you posted

file:///E:/Reaper%20Saves/project%202/Mr%20No%20Name%20-%20Boy%20named%20Sue%20(remix).mp3

is only to your local E: drive, which can't be accessed by us.  To be a file accessible from the internet, it would require a domain name or IP address first (to the network it is hosted on), and then a path that is accessible from the internet (permissions given, etc).

if the file is less than 4.88mb you may be able to attach it directly to your post, if .mp3 is an allowable file type on this forum (I haven't looked for the list, and the attachment section doesn't say).

Otherwise you'll need to upload the file to a place that hosts music files, ideally a streaming service so people don't have to download the whole file before they can listen to it.   (such as one of those I previously listed).

I am thinking a dedicated "studio space" has to be an integral part of the creative process ?

Having a dedicated space is fantastic, and I really hope I never have to go without. But I have written a lot of music when my "studio" was essentially a desk in a corner of the living room or right next to my bed. Forget dedicated studio - I didn't have access to a dedicated computer, nor even just a dedicated hard drive.

Here I have the whole house to myself and a dedicated room, but sometimes I grab a laptop and a midi keyboard and head downstairs to the living room - sometimes not being "in the studio" helps, as I don't feel the pressure of having to come up with something.

That old MacBook is from 2010 and runs an old copy of Logic 9, with only a few instruments, but even that can be inspiring.  Most of the time I don't even bother hooking up an audio interface and monitors, I just use the laptop's.

I also get a disproportionate number of my ideas in the bathroom, usually when I'm in the shower.  Fixing food also seems to be a source of inspiration. The good thing is that with smartphones nowadays, one can just record the basic idea on the spot.

I remember getting an idea for a melody at the beginning of a 12 hour shift working security on a construction site and trying to hold it for the rest of my shift. Well, I failed. That was over 20 years ago and I'm still bitter about it. 😁

Been there. I def lost my share of melodies back in the day. Conversely though, one time I was drinking with my pals and I heard a great guitar solo in my head to a song my brother & I had recently written. I could hear the whole thing from beginning to end(that never happens!). Unfortunately, I had no guitar and no way to record myself humming it.

I was 100% positive that I'd never remember it. But by some miracle, the next day I still heard the entire solo perfectly. Somehow it made it thru the night and even survived the next morning's hangover. That was about 30 yrs ago and I still play that solo the exact same way today. I guess it was meant to be.

There are lots of stories out there of those who have had something to record an idea into.  One famous one was when Keith Richards woke up on a subway after falling asleep drunk.  He found that he had recorded something on his hand-held cassette recorder and, after rewinding and playing it back, had the beginnings for Satisfaction!

Unable to embed a bandlab player on here for some reason?

There used to be a button in the post toolbar called "Embed BandLab Post". After clicking, you simply pasted the URL to your song and the player with the song was embedded into the post. Apparently, not so anymore. Pretty strange.

Maybe try SoundCloud instead.

I can't be bothered 😂

Anyone who want's to hear it will have to press twice.

It is strange about the bandlab button going missing.

Good job bud. U actually gave those lyrics a dark vibe. Instead of being funny, it's like Cash was truly mentally scarred 😄

Also, u clearly understand the concept of simple, catchy hooks. Plus, u finished before ur self deadline. Bravo👍

And the beauty is, u could always put ur own lyrics to that music if u want (perhaps ur next self challenge?). I know lyrics can seem tasking or intimidating but what I do is start by journaling anything that's on my mind(happy, sad, confused, funny or whatever) and I don't think about rhymes, clever lines or songwriting at all. I just let out my thoughts & feelings. It's actually very therapeutic. (Which is why people keep journals of course)

But I just start there. Then that becomes the lumber pile I use to build my house/lyrics. And the beauty is that those lyrics are honest and from the heart because I didn't start out by trying to "compose lyrics". I was just writing down my thoughts & feelings.

You eventually learn lil tricks of word play & such but the most important thing is just expressing urself honestly. But good job on the music. Keep it up, you'll only get better 😉

thanks for the feedback appreciate it. What I learned getting back from my hiatus from creativity is not to overthink it and just go with the flow of it, like a surfer jumping on a wave, don't get too bogged down in trying to control the outcome of where the song is taking you, this was a bit different to how I have done things previously, I would imaging there are many ways to approach it.

As for the song writing, that is something I would like to have a go at,  but it is quite an alien concept to me, I think song writing is a special skill, especially making it work with music. I could probably write a good poem instead.

I am now re-inspired once more, thanks again.

I am looking for some more inspiration for some creativity !!!

If you would be so good as to participate, I am looking to take 3 suggestions, however outlandish, from the first 5 posts and amalgamate these ideas into a piece of music.

thanks.

however outlandish,

First, buy a cat (if u dont already own one). Then buy a mouse. Place them both at the piano then press record. Lastly, let the cat try to kill the mouse. It should result in some great music. Here's an example...
