I'm listening to mixerman's book in which he is talking about sample replacement for drumz. When he mentions time intensive techniques, he says, 'but surely your time has some value. ' and I thought in response, 'nope, it sure does not. ' I have used cakewalk auto splitting in the past to make separate clips around every drum hit then shortened the clips like a manual gate. Then generated the data for Sample replacement and corrected it manually for each mike on the 🥁

In the end, I pleased the band most with a rough mix of what i had. As years go by, I do less and less work maybe because my time becomes more valuable if only to me.

My version of that I've used for as long as I can remember is "If it ain't broke, fix it till it is." ;)
