57Gregy Posted July 5 Posted July 5 We went to Florida for my brother's birthday and we're the ones that received gifts. He bought 3 of these at a yard sale for $60. Gave them all away. "All you need is a screwdriver". 4
T Boog Posted July 5 Posted July 5 (edited) I noticed one guy in the comments said that this sound would get old quick. I dont know but it sounds cool and IMO it would add some unique emotion on the occasional track. Kinda bagpipes meets violin Edited July 5 by T Boog 1
Amberwolf Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I bet it still sounds better than my "upgraded" FirstAct "guitar".... 7 hours ago, 57Gregy said: He bought 3 of these at a yard sale for $60. Gave them all away. "All you need is a screwdriver".. 1
Amberwolf Posted July 6 Posted July 6 (edited) Those old cords (especially the ones that actually had to have their individual wires screwed into the phone and the receiver, rather than the clear cubic plugs later used) were really tough. I used some of them for my trailer lighting on early cargo bikes. (later I used AT-style (5-pin DIN like MIDI) keyboard cables off of old IBM keyboards (the ones built so tough you could use them to chop down trees if you had patience...then snap the keycaps back on and type up your experiences). 14 hours ago, T Boog said: Edited July 6 by Amberwolf 1

A couple people in the comments mentioned Hurdy Gurdy but I didn't know what that meant. I looked it up and yeah, it's seems to be the same principle. Also, now I finally know what that irritating Donovan song is about 😆

Here's him talking about why he chose that instrument for some bits I have an old EastWest world sounds demo package of CDs that includes an HG (for Gigasampler, I think), and instructions on how to use the drone and notes to recreate teh sound. I still want to make a piece featuring it, but haven't found the right one yet. Now that I have a bunch of good vocalization and orchestral bits to fill it out, I might be able to do so, though probably not soon.
