steve@baselines.com
Hi - I hope I am all right posting this and don't make any faux pas. I'm not always the most aware. This video has a little history in it, and it may not be politically correct whatever that is. I'm curious - I know that there's a lot of you Brits out there (that is OK to say? I know people get so offended these days and I certainly don't want to do that.). And I know there are a lot of people probably as old as me, maybe older God forbid. (again - is that alright? - geez). I'd be interested in hearing any experience you guys had during or directly after WWII. Anyway, here's the video I am going to post: https://baselines.com/?p=7086 Lies and Consequences: Youtube link as well:
Lynn Wilson
Steve! This ought to be required viewing, as the message is still timely today, sadly... The overall mix is superb, and your voice is in great shape. It somewhat reminds me of one of my favorite 80's bands - Bourgeois-Tagg. Powerful stuff!!

Thank you Lynn - This was kicking around for a while because I was unhappy with my original vocal. I redid it all as one take and I was happy with how it came out. Thank you for listening! bjornpdx
Hard to watch and hard to realize that events like this actually happened. Not sure why you're concerned about political correctness? Great lyrics and you made them fit the video well. Looks like the soldiers are marching along to the beat. Only connection I have with WW2 is that I have a relative who helped rebuild destroyed cities in Belgium. -Bjorn

Haha, I'm connected to Brent Burgeois on Facebook through a mutual friend (but don't actually know him). I was thinking They Might Be Giants vibes, especially with the style of music and lyrics / storytelling, which are very clever and well crafted, BTW. Nice job, Steve. I'm in the US and it seems these days that everybody is offended by anything, so that is why I phrased it like I did. Things are really weird these days! Terry Carroll
So good, it's like the 90s meets New wave, meets 10cc. I hear a vocal and sound from the 90s that sounds like the group Fastball. I always liked that Fastball sound, wish That Rock didn't get so messy after the 90s. We can thank corporate greed for that. Anyway, you have so a cool sound going on. Tock on! Wookiee
The Brits are lot less sensitive than you might think, even the bible bashers can be tolerant not like certain peeps in the US. As I said before it sounds fine.
PavlovsCat
@steve@baselines.com I was going through your blog and came across the cover of "Martha My Dear" -- it's fantastic! 10 out of 10! Did you already do a thread on that cover? Kudos to you and all involved in that cover. https://baselines.com/?p=6989 Edited May 27 by PavlovsCat

I agree about your comment of rock after the 90s - part of it is I'm just getting old, but I really think a lot of it is drivel now - I like listening to the songs that get posted here more than the songs that are on the radio now. I -- not even kidding -- edited down my post about it because I was way too enthusiastic about that cover. I've literally played it to my entire family! I'm a huge Beatles fan and you guys did an incredible job. I recall you having a bunch of great 70s covers on your blog. Kudos. I love that stuff! All very well done. I think Because fits your voice best. Penny Lane at certain points reminded me of what it would sound like if Brian Wilson (Beach Boys, but I'm very certain you knew that) sang the song. jwnicholson78
Excellent song and the lyrics are timely. Video is really well done, too, but man some of that historical footage is tough to watch.
