"Sands of Time" (Parts 1 and 2) - Just finished the audio and video

My second collaboration with my good friend Alan Petersen. This song will be included on my upcoming fifth solo instrumental album. The song is in two parts with the second being very much in the Latin rock feel.

This production was recorded and mixed with Cakewalk. The sessions were videoed and then edited in Magix Vegas. I used 10 mics to record the drums, bass was recorded directly via the Kemper Rack, guitars were also recorded directly with the Kemper. Piano was played on the Yamaha P45 using the Rhodes patch. Acoustic guitar was an Ibanez Artwood. There were a few VSTs used for the “ambient” synth sounds.

My only regret was that I was unable to film the recording of the percussion tracks.

Look forward to any feedback. Thanks!

Oh yes - great work - love the bossa feel of part two. This has definitely improved my mood this morning.

Great song title btw (private joke - I wrote one a few years ago with the same name - very different groove and feel mind you and most definitely not in this league) ??

Larry stole the show (again)!

Looking forward to the album.

Great number  -- both parts one and two --  lead by a great composition and great performances by all involved.  Part one was very pleasant and enjoyable and I also enjoyed the uptempo Latin tinged sounds of part 2.  I also enjoyed the video particularly the immediate introduction with the time piece running fast and the the person in slow motion.  You can always tell when a drummer is having a good time and enjoying themself.  It looked like the drummer in your video was certainly enjoying himself.

Well done!

Beautifully played, love the whole thing.

The one thing that is not in your control, but sucked was the stupid commercial that popped up in the middle of the of the song.?

I left my comments on your YOUTUBE channel.

Thanks Andy! Part 2 is Larry’s favourite feel. He's a big Santana fan.

Sounds great all round (lappy speakers) . No crits here other than that I wouldn't have minded at all if Part 1 had been longer.

Thanks Paulo. I do enjoy longer songs in general and I agree about Part 1 but I think that it would have made it just a bit too long.

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments Freddy! Larry loves what he does! As long as he's playing, he's happy!

Yes, I agree about the ads! I don't mind an ad at the beginning of a song but not in the middle.

Hi Pete.
Great tracks and great mixing skills too.
Sounds fantastic on my Focal Trio 6.

Everything is very clear and has its own space... especially the percussion side of things.  (I would struggle with that myself).
Guitar tones are excellent.  (I bought the Kemper for my son and his Sandberg bass... amazing piece of kit).
Reverb is perfect too.
Too be honest I cant find any constructive criticism for this mix.

Regarding video..  you have some skills there too.
What cameras are you using?

I use Premiere.
Had Vegas years ago.. but then beta tested for Adobe for a number of years and stuck to that.

Anyway.. lot of effort has gone into that production and it sounds great.
Well done.

Great stuff here Peter. Really enjoyed it.
Left my "like" and comments over at YouTube, noticed that some others had as well (y'all know who you are or are not on that one).

t

just a note: back on your Take Me Home thread I asked about the cymbals. I can hear them now, finally broke down and got some hearing-aids...

Thanks so much for your comments Gary!

Regarding the video, I use 3 Sony NX30 HD video cameras. I set them up before tracking to show various angles. I therefore end up with about 25 different video tracks of the various instruments which I then edit into a final production.

Cheers!
