I'm actually the proud owner of a cell phone with the Uber app installed on it. My transportation budget is roughly $90-100 a month. I can imagine yes, and a lot of people have told me so, but I never even got my license. Ironic considering my line of work. Grew up in a small town where I could walk everywhere, then moved to a city where public transportation was adequate and where owning a car can be a PITA, especially during winter months - driving around the block for half an hour to find a parking spot and then having to wake up at 4 am to move your car because of snow removal (which probably means that your car is also buried under the snow and you'll have to spend some quality time with that shovel.) I thought of getting my license when we were thinking of having a kid, but otherwise, it's never been something I was interested in. And the world probably is a much safer place because of that. ? John Vere Posted December 24, 2023 Share Posted December 24, 2023 (edited) We ran over a Moose coming home from my Daughters on Christmas Eve last year. Tonight we will try again with out the Moose. We weren’t the first person to hit it, a large truck took it out first. It was very snowy and we were only going 60 Kph. I was only 30 feet away when I saw it laying across our lane of the highway. This thing is as big as a milk cow. We literally catapulted over it like the Dukes of Hazard. It took out my radiator support and the air conditioning system was also on the ground. This was a Hyundai Santa Fe so we had just enough clearance to result in going over as apposed to hitting it which would have been a trip to emergency for sure. Tonight we will take my Old Chevy Silverado. You always feel a little safer around here in a good old PU. I don’t think an Uber car would have survived! But then I guess you don’t have many Mooses in the City. PS. This was a very remote section of highway with no cell service. There’s not much traffic on Christmas Eve. Can walk (approx 1 min) to : Supermarket, 3 bakery, 2 dentist, 3 hairshop, diy store, post office, doctor, 2carshop, 2 butcherstore, flowershop, bikerepair, fishshop, 2 donershop, gym, fysio, pets supply, 2 asian food, weeky fresh market, 4 pubs, restaurant, brothel, gokart track etc etc. basically ANYTHING one needs and a LOT more (botox/plastic churgery in me street, spiritual healing) crazy I know... Boy, if they had a good set of lawyers, they could have trademarked the "subscription/membership plans versus perpetual license" long before it came into vogue!
