After three years of intensive prototyping and many virtual and face to face meetings,  AMEI and The MIDI Association have just published 4 significantly updated MIDI 2.0 core specifications and a brand new specification for a MIDI 2.0 SMF Clip File.

These are the result of many man years of volunteer work by members of AMEI and The MIDI Association and consist of over 350 pages of detailed specifications.

Check your e-mail for a summarizing mailing from the MIDI Association.

And how many devices are 2.0 capable?

I'll check back in another 40 years. I'll be 110 but I'll be here, still posting.

Took what, 40 years?!

And how many devices are 2.0 capable?

Isn't that basically what VST3 is?

I haven't read anything about this in a while, but if IIRC the "advanced" capabilities of VST3 are very similar to what Midi 2.0 is capable of. Maybe we'll see the features of VST3 being used more often now.

I could be totally wrong ...

I'm sure there's overlap between VST3 specs and MIDI 2.0 specs.

I'm not aware of any major piece of gear that's actually using MIDI 2.0

It'll probably be another decade before it's common.  ?

Next will come the notices from our keyboard makers that the MIDI spec has been superseded by the MIDI 2.0 spec and the keyboards will no longer work.
Get your 2.0 keyboards today! ?

Except they can't do that because MIDI 2.0 is backwards compatible as part of the specification.
