Yes and yes!

There are companies here in Vancouver that actually have Vantucky in their name despite it being a bit of a reference to some of the redneck population here.

Portlandia actually became a TV show based on how weird Portland is.  Here's a sample:

They were in Seattle when they were renting. But now his fiance has gotten a permanent job up there and the job is in Olympia, they moved to that place.

The lead actress, Carrie Brownstein, is actually in a band called Sleater-Kinney (named for an intersection in Olympia Washington!).

Of course, as we're so often painfully reminded, not everyone shares the same sense of humor as our Craig. But yeh, I think you'd not be assaulted for using those sobriquets.

And Fred Armisen is an excellent drummer.
