Would XLR to TSR transfer a better signal than XLR to unbalanced 1/4 inch jack?

I assume the inputs on my GAP Pre 73 are balanced.

I am looking for this cable because I would rather plug a TSR into my preamp than accidentally turn on phantom power and burn up my dynamic mic.

That is really great info to know BDickens!

On checking Google they concur with you.

So probably my balanced XLR cable is better than the XLR to TSR because it does not have any kind of conversion happening within the cable.

Phantom power will not harm a dynamic microphone.

If the dynamic mic is a ribbon mic it definitely could.

The side rejection of that mic is incredible! I would still be careful. From Royer: The ribbon elements in some vintage ribbon microphones can be harmed or even destroyed by the presence of phantom power. For this reason, it is commonly recommended that phantom power be turned off when using ribbon microphones. Leaving phantom power on can result in a stretched or completely blown ribbon.
