Tracks Randomly Going Quiet

I'm kind of a new user to Cakewalk, and to production in general, so I might be doing something wrong, but when I add a synth track (I was using Kontakt in this case) the first time I play it it works fine, then all of a sudden it becomes like 5 or 6 times quieter, even though it shows up as normal in the DAW.  This has been happening to me for over a week now, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to fix it.

What is your playback device? Computer sound card? Audio interface?
