Has anyone seen this before, and how to get rid of it

Has any body seen anything like this before and how do you get rid of it?

This has appeared in an old project I was re-mixing and belonged to a drums VST instrument and is empty. I am trying to tidy up the tracks by deleting everything that is unwanted, but this one defies being deleted. Instead it just shuts down Cakewalk without any message or explaination. Whoosh ... Cake is gone.

Luckily everything still remains intact after re-opening. I have tried save as a new project…

Have you tried opening the project in safe mode and skipping the plug-in used by that track?

To open in safe mode, hold down the SHIFT key while opening the project.

Have you tried splitting the instrument track?

I mentioned in another thread this happened to me a few times over the years. All tracks were affected but don't know what causes it or how to fix it.
