Richard Strickland
I've narrowed down my search to either of these: https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/5448005/HP-Pavilion-TP01-2066-Desktop-PC/ https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/7517433/Lenovo-IdeaCentre-5-14IMB05-Desktop-PC/ I only plan on producing my own music for now but I do want flexibility with the amount of tracks, VSTs, and plug-ins that I use. My current computer is 12 years old with an Intel i5 and 6GB. It still performs decently but I'm having to increase my buffer size substantially to prevent audio dropouts during playback and still get a lot of pops regardless. Thanks. No, there was no mention of an interface in the OP. I doubt the choice of CPU has any impact on the interface and vice versa. That said, I do not follow hardware that closely. My last two machines were built by @Jim Roseberry. I rely on his expertise. Every DAW I have ever owned has been Intel-based. I know there are some here using AMD processors. 2
Jim Roseberry
Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs prior to Vermeer (Ryzen 9 5xxx series) are sub-par when it comes to low latency performance. Multi-threaded performance is good. For less than the Ryzen 7 5700G, you can get the i9-10850k (10 cores, 20 processing threads, and 5.2GHz max turbo frequency). 2
Michael Vogel
Another recommendation to get some pro advice from Jim as to what to build or buy.
