aidan o driscoll
Just now, Sander Verstraten said: So it's a bit like Presonus Sphere? Like OFFICE 365 .. for monthly sub you get the whole suite of apps - word, excel, powerpoint, access, outlook, publisher, onedrive 1TB and load of other cloud apps. Rather than MS charging you for each individual prog you pay a monthly fee for the lot. With MS the adv is you will always get the latest version as long as you keep the sub up, no more having to repurchase the 2022 or 2025 or or versions of office, all included with the sub. I assume REASON doing the same, as long as you keep up the 19.99PM sub you will get everything and always the newest versions plus probably all new stuff they add over time
Sander Verstraten
I would wish, Reason Studios and Presonus would offer 2 subscriptions: - 1 with everything, like they have now - 1 with only the soundsets/plugins for people that already have the core program
Reid Rosefelt
Reason 11 is still available for purchase on their site. https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/product/reason-11/ As is the upgrade https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/product/reason-11-upgrade/ I think Suite is over. And there's a big question mark about whether you'll be able to buy Reason 12. Years ago this would have interested me a lot, because I used Reason every day. Now I don't see any "reason" (haha) to use it--I am fine with the instruments and effects I have elsewhere. I upgraded every year from Reason 3 on until they started with the Rack Extensions. That took me off the platform. They always got me excited about the new instruments with the upgrades--I even went to demonstrations here in New York to see them months in advance. And then they offloaded them to the Rack Extensions. And I've never upgraded since. What happened was I discovered the world of things like Kontakt and Falcon and Omni. If Steinberg offered something like this, they'd have my attention. Or Orchestral Tools. Or Spitfire. Any company I am highly invested in. It's interesting that they think they are competitive with East West. Edited January 27, 2021 by Reid Rosefelt
Fleer
Still have an unregistered 11 Suite upgrade. Now what to do ...
Paul Young
So far they have yet to make it simple to put RE content on a separate drive and that's gonna be a lot of bloat on the OS drive. This is another DAW I rarely use but for some illogical reason I've had a license since 4.
Yan Filiatrault
I bought the Suite upgrade while it was on sale recently. At least, I’ll be able to use Reason in my other DAW’s and the rack extensions included in Suite as well, so I lost nothing in the process. Matthew Sorrels
Quote If I already use Reason, can I keep using my license? Sure! You bought it, it is yours. And we will keep developing Reason and selling licenses in our shop if you prefer to own instead of subscribe. Just a optional subscription offering. Move along.

marcL
Subscription is the worst thing for the consumer, 'cos mostly he cannot rate the development/evolution, he has to accept what is delivered. It is comparable to socialism! In contrast buying products gives usually the possibility to decide whether it is worth the price! IMO this is also good for the development of products! Reid Rosefelt
The response to this online has been great. Absolute rage. I think a major cause of people being so angry is because of the really tone-deaf video they put out to announce it. Complete lack of awareness of what musicians think about subscriptions. Treating their customer base like dunces happy to hear what this enthusiastic female voice tells us. Somebody should have gotten out, shown their face and explained this. And the video makes no attempt to make it clear that Reason+ is just an option. Which is huge. Read the comments to this video. Whew! The worry is that they will devote their attention to all the extras they will create to make Reason+ a worthwhile investment, and hold on to their subscribers. Not to improving Reason itself and providing a reason to update--adding features that their users are begging for, like VST3. When you look at how Composer Cloud is a non-issue for pretty much everybody, you can see that it's just how you communicate things. IMHO a subscription should be presented as an option that has advantages for certain people, not something everybody should be thrilled to accept. According to them we should all think "The world is so much better now!! How did I ever get along in those dark days of buying and owning my software?" And rolling this out during the Pandemic.... wow.
Carlos Iglesias
Let's look at what happened to Sonar when it was owned by Gibson, they also sold us the bike of how wonderful the subscriptions were.
Bruno de Souza Lino
Well, another DAW to scrape off the list. Cakewalk was one of the first companies to do the whole subscription shebang and and look at what happened with it.
Maestro
Intro is also discontinued. That's unfortunate for people starting out in Cakewalk. That was the cheapest way to sure it up with some decent Synths, One-Shot and Multi-Samplers, a few decent Players, and a Drum Sampler/Machine (among other things). So, now you basically have to pay $399 or Subscribe for $19.99/mo. (higher than the cost of a Studio One Rent-to-Own) if you want to use Reason. IMO, this is not a very attractive market position to put yourself in - especially when you claim (in the live stream) that Reason+ was to "get new users." They've basically made it more expensive and less convenient for new users to use their product!
Cristian
One of my big pet peeves is that when many subscriptions advertise their price, it's not actually the monthly price, but the yearly price divided by 12. Often you're not paying 19.99/mo but 239.88/yr, as a flat payment. Some subscriptions go even further and have you pay 24.99/mo if you want to be billed monthly with a yearly contract. The price is often even higher if you want to "pay as you go", usually 34.99/mo. While this is not the case with Reason+, it's still a pretty widespread practice,
