MIDI Instruments won't record

Hi, 

I can't record midi instruments like SI-Drumkit or SI-Bass.  I enable record on the track and click the record button and the track rolls, but there's no indication that anything is getting recorded.

I can hear the drums as I play them by tapping keys on the computer keyboard or clicking the images, but the sounds aren't captured when I hit record.

Analog inputs work fine.

 

I have followed the tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZqXiL2L36g except the driver mode is WASAPI Shared instead of ASIO because when I choose ASIO,  I can't see any audio devices.  But since I can record analog inputs I hope this doesn't matter.

The track *is* armed.

I got it to work once but haven't been able to do it since. 

Also, I can't bring up the Quantize screen by tapping Q in the keyboard.

Okay, I can now record using the virtual controller (looks like a piano keyboard outlined in green below). 

How can I record the built-in patterns in SI-Drums?

To save typing -

With the SI-Drums Kit UI open and in focus click the F1 key

This should open the SI-Drum Kit help.

Read the section in the help on "Using the MIDI Patterns"
