Nigel Mackay
Are there any VSTs that give you good background vocalists doing "ooh-ooh-wee"? Everything I've found via Google/YouTube seems to be for church music and are not suitable for pop/rock music. Something a bit better than the Choir Oohs and Choir Aahs in TTS-1. msmcleod
Xpand2! has the Oooh-ahh and Eee , but I suspect it's a bit too "choiry" for your liking. It's pretty similar to TTS-1 but better quality. You might want to check out https://www.ghosthack.de/ultimate-vocal-library/ which is pretty cheap at €23.99 (listen to the chant demos on the web page) Anything else is in the realms of Kontakt... There's https://www.flstudiomusic.com/2017/01/soundbetter-free-background-vocals.html which is free (so it needs the full version of Kontakt), although to my ears it sounds a bit synthetic. Everything else I've seen is for Kontakt and is in the region of $150 - 200 or so, although 8-DIO does have some vocal instruments on sale sometimes. If you've got Dimension Pro from the SONAR days, the Jacyn Riffs / Lauren Riffs are worth checking out. They're among the best I've heard and very usable. Other than that, I think sample libraries might be the way to go.
msmcleod
Oh, I totally forgot about this (free!) gem: https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2019/11/12/emvoice-one/ It'll basically sing anything you give it, and sounds WAY better than any virtual vocalist I've heard. The only downside is you need to be online to use it. 2
Nigel Mackay
I'll have a look/listen, thanks.
Wibbles
Dimension Pro also has the pop ooh and pop aah samples.
Nigel Mackay
@msmcleod XPand2: Still looking at it. GhostHack: Not bad at all. SoundBetter: Freebie finished 1st Jan ?, but is a bit synthetic if you are trying to emulate a pop song as accurately as you can. EmVoiceOne: Seems that if I stick to Oohs and Aahs might be ok. 8Dio are very expensive. @Wibbles Dimension Pro: Will check out. Need to scour YouTube to find a demo of "Vocals", it having so much. Vernon Barnes
The Ladies by Realivox https://realitone.com/products/realivoxladies Not cheap and needs the full version of Kontakt but its streets ahead of anything else I have come across for pop/rock You can create phrases for the available syllables and you can stack up to six different singers so there is a lot of versatility. EastWest's new library "Hollywood Backup up Vocals" had promise but its a bit disappointing in my opinion. It would be cheaper than The Ladies if you don't have Kontakt while the intro offer is on. http://www.soundsonline.com/hollywood-backup-singers

Byron Dickens
SampleTank has such. East West has some stuff too. I like the Symphonic Choir.

Not sure how long that offer is on for though.
Jim Fogle
One you may want to investigate is Realivox Ladies by Realitone. There are lite and full versions for Kontakt and the free Kontakt player. At this time holiday pricing still in play.

I had not realised there were versions for Kontakt Player when I made my post yesterday. That really makes at a more attractive option for some one without the full Kontakt. Do you know if they ever have sales on the full version?

I was dead impressed by the quality, but put off by the requirement for it to be always online, so I uninstalled it. I actually prefer the way Alter/Ego works as it feels more integrated with the DAW rather than having its own PRV. I'm not a big fan of PRV editing - I'd rather just play it.
Jim Fogle
@Vernon Barnes, I apologize for repeating your suggestion. In my zeal to post a response I did not look hard enough at the prior suggestions and overlooked your response. My apologies for stepping on your toes. I'm am glad that I provided additional information you were not aware of.

Max Arwood
Thanks for Emvoice-one. I wish the price wasn’t so high! I guess I could get a few more notes with some pitch software. I it is weird about the internet connection/cloud based stuff. I will say it sounds really good. Thanks for a great thread.
Nigel Mackay
Don't know why I missed it before, but VST4Free has NST Choirs from bcvsts. Nice light vocals.
