I picked up 4, SM58 grills from amazon. They are woven identical to the original, but with thinner wire. So they are not as strong as the Shure grills. I filled in with epoxy just below the red line. Then I cut the wires at the blue line, on both sides of the grill. This is for air to escape. I snipped the vertical wires, and removed the horizontal wires. Using a dremel tool, cut the lower half of the grill off. Trimmed the foam to only cover the top of the grill. With the grill in place, bent the cut off wires, to hold it in place. Finally I attached the pop filter to the top of another grill. And it looks like this. It works very well as a pop filter. I used it Thursday night, and noticed the need for a deesser at times. I don't know if that had anything to do with the alteration to the mic. Or it might have been the fact it was turned up higher than usual.

Thanks John. Last week I made a pop filter for my SM58. It works very well. The test will be Thursday, if it's not raining. I use a Model 12 for live shows. It has a 100Hz filter, but I think the filter doesn't come before the A-D converter, so pops would show up in the recording. I record all my gigs in case I have a good performance. I have always had the 100HZ filter on. I would be happy to elaborate on the construction of the filter if there's any interest.

Best MIDI keyboard for Cakewalk/Sonar (and possibly any DAW)
Dave Gelzleichter replied to hockeyjx's topic in Gear
I use the Arturia Keylab 88. It does everything I need it to do. And a whole lot, I have not learned how to do yet. It also comes with a lot of great software. -
I have never noticed a strap changing the sound of my guitars. I may try recording with different straps, to see if that makes a difference. I will have to wait till after the 1st of August, all of my studio time now is preparing for my next gig.

I miss interpreted the title of this thread, and wanted to reply, "I've tried several straps, my guitar sounds the same"?

Thanks for your replies. reginaldStjohn I have a couple of those pop filters in the studio, but don't want a 6 inch disc in front of me on stage. mettelus and bats brew, I had a sm58 I bought in the 80s that worked great. In 2014 it went with a PA system I donated to our local fire department. After that I started using a 58 my son bought around 2009. This 58 did not stop pops very well at all. The en-core 100 works better but still not what I'd like. Thanks again, I might just keep using what I have.

I am considering getting a new vocal mic for live shows. If I do, it would have to be a super cardioid mic ,with a good pop filter. I can't over stress the pop filter aspect. At 67 I still have a very powerful voice. Currently I'm using a Blue en-core 100, with a pop filter I made from modifying a foam windscreen. It works great but I don't like the looks of it. Also I was getting a bit of feedback last night. I only do a few gigs a year. Out doors at a local Bar. So I would have to stay under $500, and would love to stay under $300. I would love to hear suggestions if you have used anything that might work. I don't care if its dynamic, or condenser. Thanks Dave G

Thanks for the suggestions Jack. Bass parts are my biggest challenge. I've recently started using Modo Bass. But I'm not thrilled with it. I know this was done when I was attempting to do it myself.

I had a couple lines rolling in my head for 20 some odd years. One day last year I started writing something I called The Levee. I was just spitting words, hoping I could make sense of it. Then one day I decided to combine it with those lines about the torn bill in my wallet. About that bill. In the mid 70s, some friends and I started a business. We were going to be concert promoters. We failed. Two years later Tom, the treasurer received a letter from the bank, stating we had an inactive account containing $100. So the 3 of us still in town, walked up to the drive up window and closed the account. Tom passed out 33 dollars, to each of us. Then asked what he should do with the remaining dollar. I took it from his hand, and tore it in 3 pieces. For years when the 3 of us would go out for a beer, we would take them out of our wallets, and line them up on the table and laugh. Mark died of kidney failure around 1992. Tom lost his battle with cancer a few years later. I still carry my piece and Toms (His wife gave it to me after he died, she knew what it meant to us). The only way I knew to share this was dropbox. Perhaps in the future I will learn better ways. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/iyv235ucls15vkbzrr4u3/The-Levee-6-27-2024.mp3?rlkey=ht24psvcidsp9xp945dn84vjn&st=y8nvnafm&dl=0

Can someone define 'Soon' in musical terms?
Dave Gelzleichter replied to Heath Row's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The way I see it is, I will have to take out my credit card SOON. If that is delayed, I can live with it. Until then I'm creating music with a daw that I love. -
You Might want to try demo versions of other daws and see what works for you. I have been using Cakewalk for so long I have no desire to change. Being new to music production, you Probably don't have a work flow established. Try a variety of things before investing in a daw.

Not Liking the look of the New Sonar Interface

Not Liking the look of the New Sonar Interface
Dave Gelzleichter replied to mark foster's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I will miss having my blue theme. Perhaps in the future a theme editor will be available. It's not always easy to accept change. I hated when they changed the name from PA, to Sonar. I hated when they introduced something called skylight. Over time I grew to love these things. I'm accepting change with more grace as I age. I believe we will come to embrace the new Sonar, and concentrate on the music, not being distracted by a screen. btw I hated when they came and put a dial on our phone. I had to learn a 7 digit number, rather than tell the operator a 4 digit number to call my Grandpa. -
Recording audio to external drive
Dave Gelzleichter replied to Dave Gelzleichter's topic in Computer Systems
I finally got the chance to schedule a day to get Dave up and running. Using Magician we cloned his old drive without the need for foul language. Everything is good. John I will steer him to some of your vidios. He doesn't do midi just audio, can you recommend a couple to start? With us both being retired it's hard to find days we're both free.? -
Recording audio to external drive
Dave Gelzleichter replied to Dave Gelzleichter's topic in Computer Systems
Thank you, Glenn and John, for your replies. I knew he could not move the OS from one machine to another. Thanks for reminding me why. When I replaced the hard drives in my laptop, and my wife's, I used a Samsung app, to clone the old drives. I can't remember if it was Magician. I couldn't get them to boot from the new ssd. I had to reinstall windows both times. Sometimes I get myself in too deep. So this time I thought I'd ask questions ahead of time. I'll have him get a sata drive, so speed won't be an issue. God bless Ya, Dave G -
I'm in the process of helping my brother in law, update his DAW. He is still using PA9, with windows XP. He has acquired a used computer with an I5 processor, and 16gb of ram. It came with windows 10 on the HD. His idea was to get a 2TB External drive, and migrate the OS to that drive. His thinking was if something went wrong with the computer, he could plug the external drive into another computer and everything would work. I told him I didn't think that would work. My question is, would it be possible to use an external drive to handle CbB and all the audio. My suggestion was to put a sata ssd inside and be done with it.

Thanks Promidi, I had tried that and it didn't help. Sunday I updated the drivers on my graphics cards and the problem went away. At least for an hour Sunday. I got back in the studio today, and it's been working for the past hour or so. I pray it keeps working. I wanted to update the driver for my audio interface, but found MOTU hasn't come out with a new driver for the ultraLite mk3, in 5 years. I went with MOTU because my experience was, they supported products for a long time. I wonder if at some point I have to use ASIO4all. Or face the cash register at sweetwater. Dave G.

Thanks for the quick reply scook I tried that and it didn't work for me. in this project I have 1 instance of sample Tank, 5 Instances of RP, and 1 SI strings. All are working except 1 RP, and SI strings. I never import Midi files, The fun for me is playing them.

I have been having this problem for some time now. My go to synth is Rapture Pro, and some times it will just go silent. Today i found if I freeze the track, I can see no audio, just straight lines. After un freezing the track will play normal, for the first pass. Playing it again, it goes back to silents. So I tried freezing, unfreezing, and freezing again. On the 2nd freeze,I can see the audio in the track and it will play fine. I tried this with SI strings and had the same problem, and same results results. I am using CbB Version 2020.5 build 039, 64bit windows 10 pro I have had the same problem with previous versions of CbB

I don't get to this section of the forum to often. But reading this thread has reminded me why they don't allow politics or religion on the forum. I am passionate about both. But when it comes to food I say "eat and let eat".?
