When You're Tired Of Running - an experiment in 7/8 time
SUPAREELS replied to Lynn Wilson's topic in Songs
Buggered me brain up ... I really couldn't understand the rhythm at all ... if Zappa saw my face he's blow smoke in the air and ask who my mother was ...and then I see Jesse's comment .. .far too clever for my old brain .. but boy... you play that ol'gitar well S -
I get it now ..Brilliant ! Loadsafun S

Sometimes you have a way of pulling music into an ethereal feel, without knowing it ... You have to listen to this twice (or more) to really understand it's power.... Just a thing , sometimes my son-in law and I listen to stuff in the studio into the early hours ...he's ***** about bands and their history, and can't play a bloody thing, I'm into how the sound relates to the listener and yep, it's war at times, but ... he loved this, as do I .. so well done .. Thanks M8 you have skill ....and then we listened to Diamond Sky .......... ( The block will pass ) S

Can't believe it .. this is most probably the very best thing I have heard and seen on the site since I joined years ago ...... the video matches the song perfect, the misses vox is right on, the mix ..well what can I say ... WELL DONE YOU LOT ! I think it's time I retired from this songwriting stuff ... just leave it to the pro's Talent in spades !

As a big fan of yours all I can say is 'Brilliant' ! S
-
Just great, mix sounds OK for this kind of song ... made the sun come out here in Westward Ho! ... looking forward to the video, so thanks, wouldn't change a thing ? S
-
Sorry Pal, that's a typo... should have said ... reaching for feel that you can hear in your head, but can't achieve. I have to say the revisited version is so much clearer and I still think this is a top notch story that suits your vocal, I think it would work great in a live set ... good on you ? S
-
Thanks m8 I'm made up ! ...Now all I godda do is get my head through the studio door ? S
-
This is gonna sound really knaf. . . .I think you have a really great story here, the listener relates to it because it is life observation, we ARE trying and sometimes finding answers to life problems ' The Rhythm In Life'... BUT the sounds / mixing to these old ears is reaching for a ' feel ' that you can't hear in your head and so the song doesn't work ...Frustrating .. but for my pennyworth ( and a penny ain't worth nuffing ) on a piece of work like this I'd take a break, do something different and then come back to it, cause I feel your in too close ... just MO and it is a bloody good song S
-
That is a REAL compliment given your stuff ...Thanks M8 S

Great story, great song ..I love the chorus ...one question, why with so many great and catchy songs ain't we all millionaires
-
Have to say both songs have a sad feel to them, but I have to agree 'Thrown away' is a better song as I feel the story flows a little more. Many thanks for taking so much time with both songs . S

I think I put this one up on SC sometime ago but of late I have been going over stuff and remixing so I was very interested in the crits, having revisited this song and changed a few things. The chorus is my own voice but I use a modified Voicelive touch as I no longer do live stuff .. so that's what your hearing ... The song you made a comment about on SC, was not posted hear on CWD ( HE CAN'T TAKE YOU HOME ). You know as a songwriter and wordsmith, that if you write something to burn off the pain and one person feels it, you don't feel so alone ... Thankyou for your comment, it really meant a lot then and now, and yes things are never going to be truly resolved but they are getting better to quote an old Beatles song ! All the best Steve (Sabby)

Thankyou that's a great compliment given the stuff you do ! Sabby

Thanks for the comments I will go back and try a few things out, 'cause this song is worth it to me. The answer to me posting under a different name is yes, that's a very astute observation. Not a 'cloak and dagger' thing, I stopped posting early last year as my wife was diagnosed with acute leukemia and I didn't feel much like recording as you can imagine... she is in full remission now but I wanted to start posting under a different name ...a sorta fresh start as it were.

Thankyou, encouraging and helpful, I am trying a few alterations with the comments given ... Sabby

Thankyou for the compliment and listening Sabby

Many thanks for your input, most of all your observation. I went back in the studio and tried a few things that you and Gary commented on. I find on the re listen, the vocal is a bit hot and I tried a remix on the background vocals and I kinda liked it so I think I'll try it another way with the lead vox fronting the chorus. When it's done I'll post ...very helpful so thanks .. Sabby

Many thanks, given your stuff, your comments means a lot! Sabby

Your vocal sounds a bit like early Jagger ... some might think the reverb and drums are a bit hot but I think they make this song worth another listen .. I like this track a lot ! Sabby
-
You must have thought .. oh not another wannabe ..Sorry about that Bit .. I never knew ... Stay well
-
Thanks for the compliment about the vocal .. I have no objection to you D/L ing, and putting your idea into practice I think you have a point ... Best Regards Sabby
