[CLOSED] Cakewalk 2020.04 Early Access 1
ZincT replied to Morten Saether's topic in Early Access Program
After working on an old project which already had markers it was a piece of cake (no pun intended) to add arrangement sections and make new arrangements. One issue has been discussed in various posts above - clips which start/end before the beginning/end of a section. A couple of other thoughts which came to mind while I was working on a project without any existing markers... I right clicked on a clip expecting to see a "Make Arranger Section from Clip Boundaries" option or similar. Maybe a future option? When committing an arrangement I would have liked the option to make a new project from the committed project. Although it was easy enough to "save as" I was worried that I might forget and overwrite the existing project with no way back. Add Arranger presets (ABA, AAB, ABAABAC etc with section length prompt) - I see Mark mentions these as a future possibility. ALT-Mouse Wheel doesn't zoom horizontally if the mouse is within the Arranger track. In general, for songs where I would use the Arranger I would try a modified workflow. I would create an "Arrangement" Project and record only the basic sections without any fancy additions. For example, a song with 2 verses and a chorus is unlikely to have two identical verses (the second one might have some kind of lead-in to the chorus) but for the purposes of an Arrangement Project I would not include any embellishments on the second verse or if I did then it would be labelled as a different type of verse. I would then create my arrangements by putting together different combinations of the sections. In this way I would use the Arranger project as a parent project to spawn multiple committed projects with a basic song structure, each one saved separately. I wouldn't use the arranger in the committed projects but develop them as I would have done before there was an arranger track. If I later decide that I don't like the arrangement then I could go back to the Arranger Project to add a new arrangement or alter an existing one to create a new committed project. This is just initial thoughts and I might change my mind after I have tried this out in practice. -
Yes I tried the repair and it goes ahead and does it's stuff but I still get the same errors.
-
No it's not just you honestly! I'm now getting Error #1 on Strings 2 which I didn't touch and they appear to load and play just fine (unless it was a cunning plan by the mysterious optimise). Also Dulcimer samples have disappeared again but it doesn't give an error. Despite liking the content I have never used any of it and I'm pretty sure I have most of it covered elsewhere anyway. So I am seriously tempted to delete the whole thing to save some space and some aggro Alternatively, maybe a fresh install of everything would improve matters.

Thanks Larry - it's showing for me. Go figure! Also got an "Optimise" against Music Box but it's the usual click it and nothing appears to happen. ?

That's odd - I have used both of these functions quite a bit today and it has worked fine here. I just tried them both again and they work as expected. Isn't the second one because your snap settings are set to 1 bar? One thing I have found is that if you ALT-Mouse Wheel to zoom horizontally it doesn't work if your mouse is within the Arranger track. -
That sounds like what I was getting on the original version of Orb Producer in CbB. I could try those Projects out on my copy of Cubase Pro and let you know what happens if it would help (although I haven't yet upgraded from 10 to 10.5 if that makes a difference).

Lol, I thought it rang a bell ?♂️ Thanks that saved me installing/uninstalling another ?
-
Yes that is annoying Simon and makes them harder to search/use. I am in the process of renaming/categorising them to something more useful otherwise they will get stored with other foley samples and then forgotten.

Just reporting in on the latest EA version - I worked on an existing project for around 4 hours yesterday doing lots of edits, Melodyne on vocals etc and it was rock solid. Although the project was made before the Arranger was available it would have been much easier using the Arranger. So, to test the functionality of the Arranger and improve my knowledge of it, I'm now making an "Arranger" version of the project. If there are any issues I will report them here. -
Thanks, still not tempted by any of the offers in my account but I noticed that Sonible Balancer is available for free. https://www.sonible.com/balancer/

Running the latest version of Orb Producer Suite 1.1.2 (full) also seems very stable for me (no crashes) and pretty low CPU loading (6 to 7% reported in CbB). I'm using all four modules and they all play back fine simultaneously with the latest version.

Not that I have found Fleer. It let's you download it as per all of the other packs but, unlike the others, it doesn't then show up as something you own in your account. Strange.
-
Good choice Fleer - I did a tiny review of the freebies on this thread.

Exactly! But as it happens they're pretty good if, like me, you aren't a keyboard player first and foremost. A quick run down... The FX Toolkit is sample based and covers things like white noise, foley, ambience, risers, downlifters, buildup drums and impacts. Lots of good stuff in these for use in EDM, Cinematic or anything else for that matter. Comes in at just over 3Gb unzipped. Essential MIDI is 350 MIDI files of keyboard patterns covering every major and minor key but I didn't find any duplicates in the quick sample I did so the first Cm one is different to the first Dm one etc. Being MIDI of course it means that you could use all 350 in any key you like. One of the 7 packs is dedicated to ARPs and includes WAV examples (for some reason). Topaz - another 80 MIDI keyboard patterns so could be used like the one above.
-
Same here. Actually I think I only have their free stuff (first one was a Halloween pack from a couple years ago) but I think it has all been useful.

Wow! Brilliant work from the King ? Thanks a bunch Larry

There are a couple of accordions in the free Halion Sonic SE library which sound good. I used one of them layered with the Melodeon from the Kontakt library in a cover I made of Alan Parson's Nothing Left to Lose. UPDATE: I think the accordions I referred to above may have been in the paid version of Halion Sonic 3. Apologies for any confusion as I upgraded from HS SE to HS3 then full Halion 6 and I thought I had recorded the song when I only had the free version.

Thank you for your message Piotr and I wish the same for you and all of your family and friends. ??

That fixed it! Fast work thanks a bunch bakers! FOR INFO: I just ran the installer as normal (not as admin) and Kaspersky AV was enabled. The difference in the installation process with the new build was a long pause at the end on "finishing installation" presumably while it populates the registry. Wow there are A LOT of presets. Here's just the EQ ProChannel module... -

Ok tried: installing as admin installing with AV turned off Same result - no ProChannel presets. Would it be possible to provide a .reg file so that we can import the presets manually? -

Windows 10 Home and Kaspersky AV. I am the sole user with admin access. Would it be worth trying to run the installer as admin? -

@Noel Borthwick I have now rolled back to 2020.01 (the rollback seemed to work OK) and then re-applied the EA 2020.04 again. I still have no PC presets and my registry looks similar to Carl's. I have overlaid a few PC modules into one image here to save image space. -

After spending a long time playing with the new arranger (so far all great) I just checked my Pro Channel presets and there are none. I seem to have the same issue as @Carl P Clovis and my registry key also looks similar to his. Will do as per your instructions for Carl and report back. -

I just tried it with some volume automation on a simple 16 bar 4 section EZKeys song that I made (see below). Seems to work as expected. Note the first Section 5 copy (bar 18) was made before I did the automation envelope and the second copy (bar 22) after. UPDATE: Also, just to be clear, in the arrangement below section 5 (with the fade in) is played twice which you probably wouldn't want in reality but you could just make another copy of the section without the automation for the second iteration. Also just ignore fade in up to the end of section 6 FYI in EzKeys I used its built-in transport to create the sections then dragged the MIDI into CbB and muted the MIDI in EzKeys. I have also posted an mp3 of the arrangement so you can hear how the volume envelope is applied. Arranger Test-Arrangement 1.mp3
