I probably haven't used it enough to say whether the extra environments are really worth the extra money. I am a bit of a completionist so I'm glad I have ultimate, but I'm just a hobbyist so it's all for a bit of fun rather than to earn a living or anything. If I was faced with the upgrade from Pro to Ultimate decision today it'd probably come down to whether I had the money and didn't mind spending it, and whether I had more than 3 pairs of headphones to use with Realphones (I have 5, but most of the time I'm just using a single pair rather than switching back and forth that much).

I didn't want to rain on your parade earlier when you said you bought standard, but I did notice they have changed the tiers in version 2 so that there are extra environments in the higher plans. $20 to upgrade to Professional sounds like a very worthwhile upgrade!

I wrote to UVI support to see if they could shed light on why some got the vouchers but not others.

Well it's definitely nothing to do with owning falcon or VV, I have those and Keysuite but no voucher here. I can only guess it has to do with buying directly from uvi vs resellers or having bought in the past year.

Picked it up after a short period demoing tonight. Pretty unique sound to this thing.

That would be disappointing! You wouldn't think your local music shop would be more exciting to visit... But then that's probably how they keep their prices low.

You can also look up their office location in Google maps Street view. Pretty big frontage in NYC. Takes up most of a whole block it seems.

Oh yeah I had thought to mention that but forgot earlier. There are indeed samples for each key, C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B with more often than not 5 samples + release samples. In fact there's 8 cases with 6 samples, and only 5 cases with 4, the rest are 5 dynamic layers + 5 releases per note. There's also a single sample each for Pedal 1, Pedal 2, Pedal F, Pedal 4, Pedal R1, Pedal R2.

Well since I'm a geek I installed it, had a look at the 305 meg .SAR file it dropped under ProgramData and found it lists the wav files used. It's 4 to 5 dynamic layers and another 4 to 5 release samples per note across 5 octaves. Great presets. I just wish they'd sampled a few more dynamic layers to really do it justice - you can hear where the sample layer changes distinctly at higher velocities.

Yeah I noticed they didn't mention anything about how many layers or the use of modelling that could explain its small size. They did mention modelling of the preamp though. Maybe the samples are stored in a lossy format like AAC or OGG? Haha.

Me too. Although it's probably almost worth waiting for Absolute 7 at this point. Their upgrade cycles are merciless.

Thanks everyone who took part in the two rounds of the group buy. It was great to work together and enjoy better pricing as a result. It's a bit of manual handling coordinating it, but everything seemed to work out well in the end, and it was a bit of fun compared to the usual kind of deal. I've got to say, what a bargain for $20 for a really unique instrument. It might have a more limited range compared to a fully fledged subtractive synth but I'm getting some really interesting sounds out of it so far. It's great for super mellow ambient tones, and a perhaps unsurprisingly wide array of hybrid string sounds with all the modulation and tweaking parameters available. Pairs well with d16 Spacerek reverb too - I find the built in space too roomy for my liking so that's the first thing I remove when testing out presets.

OK the licences have been bought, and DMs have been sent to Moon OverSea, Decay KX, Mark Percil, stony, nishyp and Tomgu.
