ive downloaded a demo of Studio One and it integrates the X Touch with 3rd party VST way better than Cake....but it leaves out some things in navigation that are a trade off. Studio One does look and feel more sophisticated than Cake but it is no where near as flexible as far as i can see. Might have a look at Reaper next .there are some 3rd party files that extend the X Touch features..looks very interesting

Glad to see i have stimulated some interesting discussion. I am starting to think that it will just be easier to use my mouse as i have been doing. Even if the control surface did work as i wanted i would still be attributing rotaries to many ( some times too many ) VST controls too many to keep track of. Something like the Slate Raven type of interface is what i would ideally like... the more i think about it the more i think that mouse manipulation is the best method .. I am old school i started on Tape and large format desks so twiddling knobs is where i come from

thanks for the thorough and thoughtful response from everybody... im not interested in controlling synths or any other VST i all i want to do is control VST fx like an EQ plug in: instead of using my mouse i can nominate a group of rotaries on , pref my x touch or if not my xtouch MINI but then i will have to have 2 surfaces connected which i would like to avoid due to space restrictions

Thanks for the replies.. Ive been trying to do this for a while now.coming back to it every few months and yes ive done my fair sharing of reading and watching Youtube videos. Just so we dont get confused I also have a Behringer X touch MINI... this does react to Cakewalk ACT... but my main control surface is the big one ...Ok so this wont react to ACT... So in a few words can you tell me or direct me to some answers I dont care about VST i i just want to manipulate The VST. Thanks

Hi all.. I have the big X touch and have /am finding it frustrating that i cant control 3rd party VSTs (should i be able to get some of the buttons to react to ACT learn coz i cant get that happening) Ive been trying to work this out for a while now and a, coming to the conclusion that other DAWs have better integration Particularly Reaper and Studio one... they are able to control 3rd party vsts and do a lot more. Part of me is wondering if this will be rectified in the new release The upshot of this is that i hope i dont have to abandon Cakewalk to get these features. I would rather not have to learn another DAW. any body have any ideas to get the x touch to do what i want??? Thanks

Thanks all I think its sorted now. I set the bios to not check legacy devices and a few other things. one of them stopped the SSD from disconnecting...so all good now

Ok with further observation i have discovered that the problem is my external ssd disconnecting and reconnecting which is causing the problem. I have checked and all the power saving options and all have been set to OFF. This is a desktop and i have all my Cake audio files on an xternal SSD.. I do this so that i can disconnect the drive when not in use to prevent any kind of Ransom ware or virus problems (once bitten twice shy, im afraid). Like i said its a new build based on 12700k and gigabyte Z790 MB and 32g DDR 5 ram 500 g NVME The xternal SSD drive is connected to a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port which runs at 5Gpbs.. So where do go from here? what else could be causing the SSD to dis/reconnect PS ive noticed that it happens randomly wether running Cake or not. Thanks

well none of my plugins are demo... all genuine not pirated...and worked flawlessly on my old computer for years. Fabfilter ,, Also once the static has begun it will not stop until i close and open Cake. Lets say its not the plugins what else could i look at or check when it does it again... PS Buffer size is 128 samples so not too tight

HI all ..i have an RME UFX and with my new computer build Intel 12700 Gigabyte MB 32gig ram etc I am getting random blasts of static when running Cakwalk . Not often but its disconcerting particularly when i have headphones on.. It never happened for 5years with my old computer.. I know must be the computer right? Doesnt sound right somehow when it happens ive tried turning of all the plug ins but the static continues...so not plug in and while its happening i can stop Cake and succesfully play an audio file with Win media player etc So something to do with Cake?? There is no other audio device only the RME So where do you think i can look for a solution? If i close Cake and reopen the static is gone and i can work again. I am at a loss thanks for reading

Hi all not really a cakewalk problem but never the less i have to switch to Firefox to search Cakewalk .com because Chrome will not show PNG images it will if i right klik and "open link in new window" but not in the original page. It happens on 3 of my computers so it seems its not me but Chrome. Is this happening to you guys? thganks

thanks re reading my post i can see i have not described my query clearly... what i want to is clik on a clip and drag it by moving to the right or left of the window..no problem doing this but if i am really zoomed out i must keep my finger on the mouse and clip for a really long time sometimes... is there a way to increase the speed of this scroll so that i may traverse great distances quickly?

Hello all... how do i speed up dragging a clip from one position to another EG.. i am zoomed in on the monitor i can only see 12 bars of my project but my project is 100 bars long . what i want to do is drag a clip form say bar 12 to bar 100 but its so slow because of the zoom in.. i seem to remember that there was a modify keyboard key that i coul klik to speed up the move or am i imagining that? Thanks

Hi all a few days ago i was reading about the control bar and decided to experiment with a few different positions/sizes and since then it will not dock to either the top or bottom of the window in any project. no matter whicj project i open it remains hovering in the position of the last unsuccesful docking attempt. i have to reposition/dock it every time i open Cakewalk Very frustrating any ideas?? thanks

Thanks for the response.. been having a fiddle with CAL file and its not a bad way to go about it. quick question, how do you print the track ? thru aux channel or freeze etc? can you expand on that and also how do you print a sereo track say Toms? thanks

What i want to do is create my drum track with midi then record those tracks to Cakewalk and then process some more. I know , i know, Kontakt has all the fx /mixer etc. but im old school i like having them printed. so with that out of the way How would you do it...bounce out to stereo or mono trax.? is there anything i should be mindful of? will they sound the same once recorded. what about recording the Kontakt room and overheads... cant get my head around that.. anyway any insight /instructio will be helpful. PS im pretty sur of got them coming out to seperate DAW racks OK

Hi all.. How many times have i selected clip, press control and drag to copy a clip and end up moving it instead? Ill tell you...lots. I just cant be consistent ive tried control first then drag /right klik clip first then control... which is the definitive way to copy a clip using control and drag . some one pls set me straight. thanks

OK IM getting the hang of this. few questions.. can i select various midi clips and link them or can it only be initiated at the copying stage? with midi clips it seems only the events in the clips respond to alteration not the clips themselves i,e if link several clips i cant select one move it and the others will follow. also i cant work out the benefit of having linked audio clips. im willing to read about if some one can point to some reding material. thanks again

Thats it! Linked clips just did some experiments and created a midi clip and copied several times and they all had yje linked icon in the top left once i unlinked them they became seperate clips. Great..but how do i stop this linking behaviour from being the default? Thanks again

ripple edit is off. this is whats happening: create one bar midi clip kik on beat one snare on beat 2 copy midi clip 4 times. go back to 1st midi clip delete kik from beat one and it deletes the kik on beat one for all subsequent clips i dont remember this happening befor im sure i have something i need to turn off or on

HI all Me again. I have a series of Midi clips whiuch contain kik snare etc which i have copied to successive bars. Whats hapenning is that if i modify a kik or snare in the first bar it is changing it in all the bars. Must be a switch im missing somewhere. How do i stop this from happening?

Thanks all\tedious but i found it. If i had to document whats on every clip my studio time would double. Must be an easier way
