  1. Thanks Toddskins... I guess I'm still not explaining myself well here. I am well versed in all these aspects. My problems here are a situation. How do you connect a midi keyboard that only has usbmidi to a 5pin din Without A Computer? A gadget is now required. There are a few. Not many. next issue. I am in northern California. The friend I am trying to help lives in Florida without any internet of texting (pics could be traded). He is extremely un-tech as a man and though intelligent, he does not have any tech intuition. I had everything setup and working fine, but the keys on his cp33 died too many times to repair again. So he bought a new keyboard that he liked how it played. But turns out it is only a little home toy. It's sound is inferior. The output is only a headphone out and appears to only be giving him mono out to boot. It's the right type of cable but my experiences have shown me how often some brands won't fit correctly... He can't tell... I can’t see... So I thought to use midi slaving the old keyboard for it's sound. He is not capable of dealing with using his pc as a hub and routing through it. So a direct connect 5pin to 5pin would have been a simple solution but usbmidi got invokved. Attempting to connect things turned out far too difficult all by itself as he isn’t even certain they are correctly plugged in.... shall I go on? I hope you’re seeing the picture more clearly now. I got the cables and midi expander connected to the best of his ability and as new keyboard has no channel controls, i looked at the old keyboards midi receiving channel settings set to all. After much frustrarion and lots of i/o and sound producing tests, the midi connection was not working. I can do no more here and left him with a recommendation to return the new keyboard and buy a better one.. He will either do that or use the current lo-fi mono sound for his project... Thanks again...
  2. Not a problem Toddskins. I appreciate your time and concern. I have been using MIDI since it's inception and cv/gate for years before that too. I'm specifically referring to the use of usbmidi exclusively on so many instruments. Fine for computer connectivity, but problematic in the keyboard/hardware world...
  3. Whew! Thanks Jonathan! I know I'm going crazy but it’s a relief to know not that bad yet! ?
  4. Okay... No one else seeing this? This is starting to drive me crazy! Was this intentional? It does appear that in PRV, ctrl-scroll-wheel is now scrolling in the opposite direction. Yes I posted it above but it seems no one else picking up on it? Is it me? Have my muscle memory tools reversed???
  5. Sadly, I do. ...and I’m not thrilled with them. This is one of the reasons! ?
  6. As usual! Steve to the rescue. Perfect! Exactly the solution I wanted!
  7. It might be handy if the regions between markers in the timeline simply showed as color coded areas while allowing us to read thru all timeline info, but I hate sacrificing the screen real estate it is currently forcing.
  8. Thanks, but I do get it. I’m just not comfortable with it at the moment. That might change given time. I'm not speaking of it's visibility in the Inspector. I’m talking about it's minimal appearance in the track view itself. It does not close and disappear at top of clips pane and the word with + below the now time above the track widgets. They infringe on the available height real estate for tracks. It’s always a challenge for me to have enough visibility as track counts increase. I would like to be able to completely hide it when not in use where currently, it is always occupying some minimal space.
  9. Is it just me or has anyone else felt this? I'm not certain as my memory is not what it was... In the PRV I suddenly feel as if the ctrl-scroll command I've always used to scroll the PRV while editing has reversed directions? I hope I'm mistaken but I keep doing it with muscle memory and I keep finding myself going the wrong way...
  10. OK... Sorry to be the first one not thrilled... I'm very glad to have the discrete module presets. That will be handy... The arranger track? Though it looks very powerful and well thought out, I currently don't feel it's something I wish to use. I feel that at the moment, I prefer the clarity of my project is what I expect it to be. Using the Arranger makes this not necessarily so. I don't want to add to my aging confusion. It's simple enough for me to create alternate song versions for different arrangement ideas if and when I might find that necessary. Fortunately for me this is not often the case. So along these lines, I ask for a"small" adjustment to this new feature. I would like to be able to remove it from the track view. It currently forces my available screen real estate a tiny bit less horizontally which is very often a challenge... Thanks...
  11. I’m frustrated by all of this... Though I love my friend (brother by another mother), he's incredibly non-tech. So this may work, but I was unable to make it happen cross-country remote. This has been an attempt to adjust to recent instrument failure. His cp33's keyboard just died for it's second time. Another repair ridiculous so he bought a different keyboard far inferior, but he loves the feel... There are already so many complications and issues due to this. So this will have to follow a different course. It's very sad how this modern midi method has so badly created these interconnectivity issues where none existed before.
  12. Thanks again Gswitz... Yes, I got it from sweetwater. Sadly I am having no luck connecting with anyone there. Unusual for them but cv19 has changed things everywhere. My regular salesman is not answering e/voicemail and the "anyone" connection ends with a message box full warning. I’m guessing this will get resolved eventually.
  13. Last update. Last update. OK it didn’t work. Midi transmit/receive settings matched. Usbmidi out to expander. midi expander 5 pin din out to slave keyboard midi in. Nothing... Looking for a different solution. My friend is unable to cope with this tech. Thanks everyone...
  14. Exactly my thought and why I bought it. My problem was that I was frustrated trying to set it up blind with the person on site as un-tech as can be and no internet or texting for visual options. I finally found the manufacturer's web page for it. A bit tedious itself in the way they list it (don’t). When I did I found one remark that seemed wrench-like where they state the midi expander can not act as a midi thru... so I began thinking it not somehow. I will by attempting this again tonight and I'll post the results. Thanks everyone.
  15. Thanks Gswitz... That’s the gadget and setup for what they designed. Now substitute an ordinary midi keyboard usb midi out into the expander connection and an older midi synth connected via 5pin. Will that work? I'm going to be trying again tonight remotely. I'm in California and he's in Florida with no internet or texting...
  16. Thanks Mark! That's perfect. A blind man should be able to connect it. Unless I find the McMillen midi expander can do it, I will most definitely order this!
  17. Ha! That's what I thought too. I ordered one and had it delivered to my friend, but ran into issues. After a lot of searching I finally found a note on the McMillen website that said the box will not allow midi through from xpender to 5pin. My friend is totally non-tech. It appears this box uses usb power, but comes with a power supply that can be used for free standing. Between my friend’s lack of understanding, no internet. No texting, I couldn’t manage to tell him what to do to try it anyway. Do you know that it will work for my needs regardless of these issues? If so I will return to attempting blind instructions.... happily! Thanks...
  18. Thanks Mark... My problem specifically relates to connecting 2 midi devices without a pc. I'm trying to connect a usb midi output from one keyboard into an older keyboard with standard midi 5 pin din Any thoughts?
  19. Thanks Robert. I was just looking at the Roland um1 prior to posting which appears the same. I wold also need a usb a female to usb b male adapter. Which is where I got concerned as typically, the type b goes out of a gadget, but the type a is only on a pc. I don’t know enough of how usb midi is actually handled. These cables were originally created as a cheap way to connect an external standard midi device to a pc. Yes?
  20. What a pain. Yes, usb midi is a handy way to quick connect a gadget to a pc, but it’s near impossible to connect a usb midi device to a standard midi device without a pc involved. Has anyone found a solution for this?
  21. Thanks Mark... Just what I wanted to hear! Good job!
  22. I'm curious how it's handling automation envelopes. Anyone?
  23. Upload speeds for most people is a tiny fraction of their download speeds further adding difficulties. Equal up/down hi-speed is available, but very costly. Sad, but the internet structure is not currently a very good system to achieve such. The old standard of using a dedicated hi-speed phone line still seems the best choice. Combined with simple internet video conferencing (facetime/skype/etc.) should work pretty well. Phone line not cheap?
  24. Hi Gang... This has been going on a long time. I refrained from mentioning it as I suspected it was something I did but after doing my best to watch for such, it continues. It is related to the clip fade settings. All my templates (confirmed) have the default settings changed to slow in and fast out. I have used them any number of times in a given project, then suddenly for no observable reason appear as default (linear) again. Has anyone else noticed such?
