  1. Multitrack Recording and mixing live can all be done over Cat6 solid core home networking cable. One just needs to implement Dante cards or adapters which basically become your I/O. Use Thunderbolt for data retrieve, file storage and read/write, external media. USB 2.0 is still being implemented into multichannel audio interfaces by RME and Lynnx so I take it that USB is going to be a constant. Apple stopped developing FireWire right around the release of iPad and Macs cpu swith to Intel, despite most of the equipment deployed in the Music & Film industry made FW a standard. FW streams data full duplex where USB sends packets that have to be unpacked and assembled in one direction. I can only assume that Apple's little fling with Intel forced the end of FW to allow Intel's thunderbolt tech to replace it. God what an awful decade of ADAPTERS and DONGLEs it was!

  3. Thanks, I agree with your assessment. I will keep a spare key on me for the next time they lock us all out. And some spare prozac! It’s kinda like my de-esser I apply to my anxiety. But hey, the only way to maintain and flourish from life’s momentum, one must experience a bit of friction!

I am just curious if other bands run into this kind of situation when the band takes a break during a recording session, where the drummer over takes the piano & vocal mic as his little crony ditches the guitar for the drumset….as I was the only one left in charge of bass and piano on this session, It is apparent that I was quickly ousted. I like to refer to this wild piece of magic as The Drummers Mutiny (Explicit)

  6. @John BowlesRegarding visual compressed waveforms, this can be achieved on the buss’s and through the use of aux/patch point tracks that are being fed a group of channels such as multiple mics on an acoustic guitar or drum overheads. Go to the track view and then all one needs to do is to enable the wave preview button on the aux channel and/or buss which will create a waveform in real time that reflects the audio being processed by compressions…etc. Also, with all due respect, why should one need to quantize if one is recording Jazz? That seems very un jazz like to me… ?
  7. @johnpeeee My experience using BandLab’s mastering service over the last couple of years has been either less than ideal or has introduced aliasing and artifacts to the top end of the mix. I assume my expectations are probably just unrealistic for what their mastering is designed to do, which is totally fine except that they give no technical details that would inform me on the most ideal mix to submit. The only info I was able to obtain from their blog was that -4.4 and lower was optimal headroom. I also would like to know if they are applying dither, if they lower the ceiling for encoding mp3..etc, but I have yet to see any mention of it. So I only recommend using their mastering as a sort of reference check for a mix and a loudness target and wouldn’t use it for releasing music commercially. It’s also worth noting that music created and mixed strictly within the BandLab mix editor has better results with the mastering than uploading a mixdown from a DAW. I natural assume the mastering was designed to compliment the mixeditor and the sonic quality of the provided instruments. Well sure when I am on desktop with dual monitors, I float this and that but when doing remote work, screen space matters. you see, im also a graphic designer for websites but I specialize more in the customers ease of visual, navigation, and anything that can compel them to naturally navigate/scroll/select. This is how you eliminate stress being associated with the brand/service/diner experience. Now with a demand for remote recording engineers, screen design matters and if you were actually measure the horizontal highlighted areas, it comes out to an inch or more of real screen space. Thats actually a good amount of pixels and just the right amount to snap in the windows. There is literally empy space in the center of the screen and you guys are like huh?? What?? Its fine dude its minimal as it gets bruh! cakewalk bias. I love cakewalk but empty non functioning pixals eating up an inch of screen matters on one monitor laptop remote situations. Also, UI is now reaching 12 years ? Im not here to file a complaint and im glad to know that I cannot do anything about it in the theme editor so thanks for that.

I use to pride myself in creating complex sidechain compression routes until I started recording more and more metal bands, who greatly desire a much higher frequency for that double kick and scooped out bass. Who would have predicted that metal bands would be very sensitive to low end yet the Beatles wouldn't have much of anything going on in their song without the low end. ?

  11. I apologize if my understanding and being a Mac owner for the last 5 years is just to insufficient to be of any help to you. There are some things I do know for certain though and that is that LogicX uses VST plug ins far more than AU plugins just because ever since Mac started using Intel chips, manufacturers no longer HAD to design an AU version of their plug in. Regardless if you have either or, you have not made it clear whether or not you have found the VST directory on your Mac to see if the CA-2A was installed there. Also, the installer was designed to install onto Windows 10 & MacOS Sierra ran by Intel chips. As someone who is an owner of plugins, I assume you have been too busy to have noticed all of the plugin developers having to scramble to develop their plugins to be compatible with the new Apple Silicon M1 chip and the OS it operates with, lets say the last entire year?? If the greatest plugin developers on earth had to spend 6 months to make their plugins compatible for the new Mac, then a plugin that hasnt been in development for the last 4 years is certainly going to fail and the installers are going to dump the plugin in a place that it isn't designed to install it into. good day.
  12. CA-2A is not an AU component. It is strictly VST which should be located within the .vst directory. I am not familiar with the latest system file hierarchy on the Mac so I cannot direct you to the .vst directory here. Also to note; Macs OS does not utilize "uninstallers" like Windows does. On a Mac, one just simply drags the app to the trash to delete it from the system. You will not find an uninstaller for CA-2A like you would on a Windows computer.
  13. I'd just like to ask why you are inserting two 2-band EQ's instead of inserting one 4-band EQ? I know why I would use two, but I'm not really good at asking myself for any insight. scrollbars are cool.
  14. The CA-2A is a legacy plug in now and the development of the plugin ceased in 2017, so it is incompatible with the new Apple silicon chip (M1). It does continue to work fine in Macs with Intel chips and PC's running Windows up to Windows 10. You can uninstall the plugin on the Mac just by simply deleting the .vst file itself. There may be a graphic leftover but the main component itself can be moved to the trash bin.
  15. I consider Melodyne as a mixing tool used after all vocal performances are tracked. I do all vocal comps and render them to one cohesive take before processing the vocals with EQ/Comp etc. etc. before I even consider Melodyne. For me it comes down to time and practicality and workflow. Those must always take precedent over using Melodyne as one would use WavesTune in real time pitch correction that would remain in RAM memory until it's rendered or discarded. Melodyne for me has always been treated as a correctional tool and It terrifies me to imagine running it on every single vocal take and harmony during the tracking phase. Trying to impose a functionality onto any plugin that cannot save me time/stress or adds to the song something that cannot be done with anything else is a risky situation so I always archive all original unedited tracks and hide them to the background for those moments something goes horribly wrong. When an album is due and the pressures from all facets of the band and their backers are plotting to kill you if the production is sloppy, all due to distractions, you learn what tools do the best that they are designed to do, and how to do it the fastest, least stressful and will repeat those commands reliably every single time.
