  1. I woke up this morning, and "Chicago Serenade" popped into my head. I don't know why. Anyway, I have the LP/CD and I haven't listened to it in years so to satisfy the earworm, I put it on. Jimmy Smith was the master of the B3. Kenny Burrell is one of my favorite jazz guitarists, not just his leads, but when he isn't playing solo, he supports the soloist very well. And you can't go wrong with George Duvivier on bass and Grady Tate on drums. Add the orchestrations of Lalo Schifrin, and you have some very good 1960s ere jazz. I forgive Lalo for not hiring a sax player on this one, but a bit of Stanley Turrentine would have been a good choice.

  3. Good luck with the replacement. I've been in too many bands that had personnel problems, one way or another. The last 5-piece band I was in, we replaced the bass player and later that year the drummer. That's why we went duo. I'd tell the sad story here, but I don't want to hijack the thread. I hope the new guy works out, in the long run, better than the friend you are losing, and you don't have to cancel any gigs. Notes β™«

  14. Seymour Duncan P-Rails with Triple Shot Rings. Four settings: P-90 Rail Series Humbucker Parallel Humbucker It's like having a Swiss Army Guitar. I had them put on my Parker custom shop model. The P90 sound is great, just a little brighter than the dog-ears on my Casino The Rail is the weakest one, but if you put both pickups on the rail setting, it does have a Strat-ish sound. You need to turn the volume up on the guitar, though. The humbuckers can sound fatter like a Les Paul or thinner like a Firebird. Notes β™«
