  1. One of the first saxophone albums I ever bought. I wore out a few LPs and now have it on CD. The sax improvisations are incredible. It was done live with the orchestra in 2 track stereo, a couple of takes per song, no splicing, no punch ins, and the melodies Stan ad-libbed sound like they were penned with a lot of work. I'm still amazed at his work on this. He has great technical chops, but you don't hear them, you just hear melody. Note, the first cut, "I'm Late, I'm Late" are both takes played end to end. Focus - Stan Getz / Eddie Sauter (full album),
  2. Wooly Bully - Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs We do this song and the boomer generation love it. I get to go crazy on the sax so it's fun for me too.
  3. Chrome is voluntary spyware. Google's robots log everything you do on it and that info is for sale. Edge is built on the Chrome 'engine'. Firefox is much better. But it doesn't work on every site, there are a few that are chrome specific. For those I use Brave, or Duck Duck Go which are both built on the Chrome engine but with privacy controls added. Notes
  4. Some songs just need to be played a few times per year. Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin
  5. Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran The groove reminds me of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On. It's a nice song and a nice video.
  6. Psychedelic Shack - The Temptations Some good ol' "new" Motown
  7. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Diana Krall The Al Dubin and Harry Warren song, not the Billie Joe Armstrong song with the same name. The Green Day song would have worked to, but I like Ms.Krall as a jazz artist more than I like Green Day (but I do like them both).
  8. Amusing lyrics in this song My Attorney Bernie - Dave Frishberg And from the gal with the child-like voice, Blossom Dearie
  9. My blood runs cold My memory has just been sold My angel is the centerfold Angel is the centerfold Centerfold - J Geils Band sometimes I just can't get them to embed https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=j+giles+centerfold
  10. Everybody who plays the B3 owes debt to Jimmy Smith. He owns the B3 everyone after borrowed it. Chicago Serenade - Jimmy Smith Kenny Burrell's solo and comping in the guitar is it's usual very, very nice and Lalo Shifrin's arrangement is good too. This is cool school jazz.
  11. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack
  12. I'm not really fans of S&G but they have a number of nice songs. Paul is a very sophisticated songwriter. He does things that sound natural and easy but are inventive. This is one I by them I really like and the Wrecking Crew did a great job on the instrumental backing. And after all boxers are warriors thus the association. The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkle
  13. Another....good jazz phrasing - a little Billie Holiday but definitely not a clone. Who knew? Until yesterday, not me. Teach Me Tonight - Amy Winehouse
  14. Amy Winehouse was quite an accomplished jazz singer, and here's proof. Someone To Watch Over Me - Amy Winehouse
  15. "Lost Someone" (Live At The Apollo) - James Brown & The Famous Flames
  16. Scythian Suite - Sergei Prokofiev - Claudio Abbado - Chicago Symphony Orchestra
  17. Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor Doctor) - Robert Palmer
  18. When I was in a disco band 'back then' a lot of the guys were snorting coke. When they asked if I wanted to buy some, I'd say, "I don't do coke. It shrinks the membranes in your wallet." But I won't put in writing some of the things I did when I was a hippie in a psychedelic band :D
  19. I loves me some Louis Jordan. Fine alto saxophonist and music often with a sense of humor. Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby - Louis Jordan
  20. I'm missing my once a week gigs on a quay in a marina over a lagoon across from a state park. It's a tropical paradise. We do this song, not the IMHO wimped out Buster Poindexter version, but closer to the original Arrow version. This song has served us well for years, they do a conga line for the first half and jam the second. Hot Hot Hot - Arrow
  21. Some Skunk Funk - The Brecker Brothers I was in a band that covered this song and it is very, very difficult. I never felt completely comfortable with it. The notes in the heat come fast and the fingering on the sax is a bit awkward.
  22. Only if you exclude "mental" :D
