  1. IMO The best version of this Screamin' Jay Hawkins classic that I've heard. I Put A Spell On You - The Animals
  2. I like the both, but the straight one better than the circular. Nice work either way.
  3. The Tempest - Piotr Tchaikovsky - Claudio Abbado & the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (I'm actually listening at home on a CD - better fidelity than UTube)
  4. Heart Attack - Demo Lovato (don't listen if you don't like auto-tune vocals)
  5. It's been raining for days. Not typical Florida rain where it's sunny all day interrupted by an afternoon thunderstorm but rain, rain rain. Looking at the 10 day forecast, it seems there will be no letup in sight. I don't really mind the rain, it's keeping the temperatures down and the plants in the yard are going through a nice growing spurt. "Behind The Rain" - Gato Barbieri
  6. &*&@&$ sticky keyboard. liKe - OK I hit the K harder that time. On with the game - sorry ensconsed, all I got was a "Video Not Available" notice Pistol Packin' Mama - Al Dexter
  7. I understand that Clare Torry improvised these vocals on the spot, and when it was all over, asked if it was OK? More than OK in my book. It's a great piece of work. I've often thought about transcribing the studio performance and playing it on sax, but when I think about the huge chunk of time that would take, I think about all the more important things I have to do. The Great Gig In The Sky - Pink Floyd (featuring Clare Torry)
  8. I play pop music for a living and I like it (old and new top40 - but mostly older). I like it because playing pop pays much, much better than playing anything else around here, but I also really enjoy the music. I like all kinds of music, but not every piece in any particular genre. Leilani and I are compiling a fake e-disk for Band-in-a-Box to complement an off-the-shelf fake book by a major publisher. We came across this gem and it reminded me of when I was in a band that was the opening act for this group while this song was number one on Billboard (that was a looooooooong time ago). The song construction is nice, the words are good for a love song but the harmonies ***** away. There are places where one person is singing more or less a monotone, someone else is singing a descending line and another is singing an ascending line and when that should be more than enough, another one or two are singing counter-melody lines. Then the backing band, which I am guessing is the Wrecking Crew as the guys said the did it in California with some session band, does an incredible job of supporting without getting in the way. Even the sparse use of melodic percussion (bells & chimes) for ear candy are sparse, and just in the right places. Casually listening to the song it's a very good soft-rock song. Intensely listening and analyzing the song and it becomes a soft-rock masterpiece. The guys in the band were all nice guys, we got along well with them. It was a good time. Listening to this song is live visiting an old friend. Cherish - The Association
  9. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy - Andrews Sisters The harmonies are so tight, even their consonants are all sing at exactly the same time. Whether you like the music or not, you can't deny the skill these gals had.
  10. When There Is No Sun - Sun Ra Sun Ra can definitely get 'outside' - I haven't heard this one yet, so I'm not sure, I'll listen with you.
  11. Kathy's Waltz - Dave Brubeck Quartet
  12. Another "sound alike" band, this one fooled a lot of people into thinking it was The Beatles. "Lies" - The Knickerbockers
  13. Washington Square - The Village Stompers
  14. I have an old copy. It's OK for head charts. Don't expect any updates, the company is pretty much just selling old stuff and not developing it. Notes
  15. "Faith" - Stevie Wonder & Ariana Grande
  16. Vehicle - Ides Of March Sounding a lot like Blood Sweat And Tears
  17. Concerto For Group And Orchestra - Deep Purple with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Because a number of rock and rollers also like classical. So Jon Lord and Ian Gillan wrote one.
  18. More "Fame" - Georgie doing an old Lambert, Hendricks and Ross tune. Gimme That Wine - Georgie Fame And the original which is just a tangent to the "fame" association. But it's nice to see where Georgie got his inspiration.
  19. These guys can play guitar, fiddle and accordion both very fast and good - and they swing - "gypsy jazz". They even make the accordion sound good. Milko - Titi Winterstein Quintett
