Well, Toontrack never gave any reasons, even when they were asked about it. The only key related reason I can think of is that they somehow lost all the SD 2 keys and couldn't verify if someone was eligible for an upgrade or not. In that situation it would make sense to set a deadline so that everyone and their uncle could not upgrade their non-existent SD 2 to SD 3 until the end of time.

This is what ticked off a lot of people. SD 3 was released on September 12th 2017 and the upgrade path from SD 2 to 3 was available until 31st of December 2018. Personally, if I use something regularly and think it's worth updating to a new version, I rarely wait over a year to do it. So I can't really understand the rage of SD 2 owners. If you wanted to update, why didn't you? If you didn't want to, what's the problem (besides the principle of thing)? I mean, it's basically like the intro pricing of some products. I concede that putting a time limit on the upgrade pricing seems a bit like forcing people to buy the upgrade, and it also makes all those SD 2 licenses that might float up later useless. I think the latter is what Toontrack was aiming for, though. Edit: I can understand if someone had trouble getting the money together by the deadline. This is a valid and understandable reason to be upset about it. Also, I'm not saying there aren't any other valid reasons to be upset about the deadline. I'm just saying that while I can kind of understand how some people would find this kind of deadline offensive, having over year to decide about and prepare for an upgrade seems reasonable to me. Edit 2 (3, actually): I'm reading forum conversations from the time this was more topical. Someone said that they had bought SD 2 just before SD 3 was released. I can understand how in that situation you'd want to wait a bit longer before updating. Edit 3: There were also people who hadn't used the software during the time of the upgrade window. You know, life happened and all that. I have successfully changed my own mind and I am now of opinion that there shouldn't be a time limit for buying an upgrade. Bad Toontrack! Well, this was an educational self-talk.

It just wouldn't make sense that one discounted product would be accepted and another one wouldn't, when their prices are exactly the same and the availability of the offer is the same. Then again, making no sense is kind of IK's specialty.

Using your rewards money you can get the MODO Drum SE for $39.99. https://audioplugin.deals/modo-drum-1-5-se-by-ik-multimedia/ So would it now qualify for the promo, even though it can be purchased for the same price as it was during the "so cheap we can't possibly allow you to participate with this" deal?

I thought this might interest the old people here, ie. everyone. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/doom-64 Apparently this is a standalone game and a direct sequel to Doom II, not a console port of either of the original games. It has new levels, new enemies, new everything. It's made by a different team than other Doom games, but people on Reddit seem to think it's honestly a good game.

I've heard about it, but I vaguely remember people saying the DeCoda was better. I guess I should try it too, just to be sure.

After a quick test I have to agree. I tried slowing two songs down to 1/4 of their normal speed, and the output from SlowGold was much clearer. There was more warbling in DeCoda and the higher frequencies (cymbals & hi-hats I think) created a nasty effect that sounded a bit like feedback. In SlowGold the high frequencies were more in check and the sound had a little bit more low end. Perhaps it uses some kind of filter or EQ. Different kind of music may provide different results, but right now my money's on the free software.

I demoed this yesterday and so far the only thing that this would offer to me is the ability to slow a song down. The chords were in the ballpark but the section detection was way off, not that I would find it useful even if it worked. In your experience, is there a cheaper/better program/plugin for slowing songs down, or is this the best there is (at this price point) for that singular purpose? I have used Audacity in the past but the sound tends to get warbly and distorted even when slowed down only moderately. DeCoda kept it surprisinly clear even at around 1/3 of the original speed. As an aside: I also tested Stagecraft Simple Stems and I was surprised how well it managed to separate different instruments. It wasn't even close to perfect, but good enough to make transcribing easier, in some cases significantly so. Often the problem for me is not the speed but some instruments getting drowned out by others. Bass is the most common victim.

Buying all those cheap libraries has taught me why I should invest in a bit more expensive ones instead. Though it still amuses me how people sometimes say things like "that [$50] library is mediocre at best, I personally prefer this [$1500] library" as if money didn't matter at all.
