  2. I've had hp in the past, it's fine and still running, but they limit what you can access in the bios. I currently have an MSI gaming laptop, and it allows a lot of tweaking in the bios. I suspect most name brands should be fine, but I always check reviews and ratings ...

  3. I bought an MSI gaming laptop three years ago and haven't had any problems with it. I use it as a secondary DAW, I have a tower as my main DAW. The laptop is also used for general computing and surfing the web. It has an intel processor and nvidia graphics. It's part of their Crosshair series. My DAW is from Jim, I recommend his products as well.

  4. Thanks for pointing that out. I broke down and bought an iLok dongle last year. All I have on it are UAD plugins. I can ditch the dongle and free up a slot on a switched usb hub,

I recently upgraded my music PC to 24H2, and it went so well that I decide to upgrade my laptop, which runs Cakewalk.

... Any changes that need to happen?

I've upgraded a laptop and DAW. On both machines I had to disable Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power in device manager -> USB controllers -> ... -> Power Management after the upgrade.

Only matters if you have a USB IF.

The hum goes away if I unplug the laptop ac adaptor.
I have tried plugging the laptop adaptor into different sockets around the room but all produce the hum.
I have also tried plugging the HA400 into different sockets around the room but all produce the hum.

Have you tried both plugged into the same socket or using a surge protector or extension cord with multiple outlets? That should solve a ground loop.

  7. Fripp and Eno used a lot of delay. Originally two tape decks spooled together. Many repeats. If you have delays with long delay times you have a start. Seven to ten seconds of delay time. I like Boz's Imperial Delay. If you don't have it, it's likely on sale. And long (ambient) reverb. A volume pedal or synth patches that swell. Melda's SuperLooper is nice for ambient stuff. Play sound on sound. I'm not familiar with Biosphere.

  8. It takes time to get a signal from the audio inface into the computer and the DAW. Latency is affected by your audio interface, the drivers it uses, your computer and the software and services running on your computer as well as fx in the DAW. With an average IF with an ASIO driver and a decent computer a person can monitor what is recorded in 8-10 ms which is like standing 10 feet away from an amp or monitor.

  9. IIRC the original Sonar came with the SFZ Player and that supported soundfont. I setup my PCs by loading Platinum and then CbB and I have SFZ ...

I have seen a few videos from Venus Theory and Dave Hilowitz (creator of Decent Sampler), that show them using Reaper to record, slice and export their samples but I wondered how I could do this inside of Cakewalk.

Personally, I would record with a DAW, apply a denoiser, and export; then use an editor. I have sound forge, but there are free editors available.
