  1. I always liked V-Vocal. I got pretty good results with it very easily. Not to say I don't like Melodyne. I took an old recording a few years ago and did an entire key change on the second half of the song and it's impossible to tell it was done with software. My problem is I've always had a terrible listening environment when mixing. I could never really hear the full effect of changes until I got in my truck. I think I'm at least one version behind on Melodyne. I can't wait to get a studio set up, get everything upgraded, and dive back in to it. I'm going to have to upgrade my PC too. Oh darn. 😁
  2. This or something very similar to it is in Melda's AutoDynamic EQ. You can even put an overlay of a keyboard on the screen iirc. I've used it more for repairing bad samples and recordings I made, but not a lot. It's very easy to mess things up with this for an amateur like me.
  3. I prefer Loyd Christmas' method (Jim Carey) from Dumb & Dumber where he sprays it sideways instead of in his mouth. Then say, "Lovely accent you have. New Jersey?". Both equally effective in the right setting I'd imagine. Lol. I used to think it was attractive. But being back in NJ after a 25 year hiatus, it's like nails on a *****ing chalk board to me now.
  4. No thanks then. That's a shame. I was really looking forward using it again. I will never use any software that I can't buy a one time license for and keep using as long as my hardware supports it. I've always said it and I meant it, Sonar was always my DAW of choice. I would have gladly switched back to it from Studio One. But not like this. The second Studio One pulls that, I'll use what I have as long as I can, and switch to something else. And if they all go that way, I'll switch back to tape.
  5. I thought it was a joke that Sonar is back so I took a look at their website. Apparently it is back. The only way I could find to get it was if I signed up for a subscription. Is that right or am I misunderstanding their website?
  6. Sonar's back? Why didn't anyone tell me?
  7. Ah. I see. They're preventing everyone's new interests swiftly by daw-blocking us.
  8. I just checked out their website. They are really putting the final nail in the coffin. You won't be able to reactivate it as of 8/25 if you need to reinstall it, get a new PC, etc. etc.. They are offering a massive discount to crossgrade to the competitor they recommend though. If I were in Finale owners' shoes I'd do that immediately and get it over with to nip that learning curve in the bud as soon as possible. Sorry to hear this is happening. ☹️
  9. This guy's channel has a lot of AI altered vocals of songs. This video explains how he does it and shows the software he uses. Please skip past the first part to where he gets in to how he does it. Basically he sings the lyrics of one famous song to the backing track of another famous song and uses AI to alter his vocal track to sound like someone else. It's pretty good but you can tell it's AI. I imagine it will be impossible to tell in a few years once the technology is improved. Imagine our daws one day being capable of offering you the option to make your voice sound like another singer. A licensed add-on you would pay for that offers you famous singers voices to choose from, built in to the daw one click away.
  10. I was happy with dos 6.22 and the supplemental disk.
  11. This reminds me of that show ... "Could the ancient Egyptian pyramids actually be built by ancient technology passed down from the Ringo Nebula some 40 trillion light years away, or did a giant race of Bigfoot like humanoids from the core of the earth lift the billion ton rocks in 2 days. Ancient alien theorist believe both!". Cue the guy with the blown back hairdo and the Peruvian rocket man necklace.
  12. Thanks. And I agree with the fugly part. I won't use anything DAW related that requires a sub. I'm not against subs, I'm just against the people that want to force you in to them. That whole slippery slope thing. They can be great and have their place, as an option ...
  13. After reading that thread this morning, been up since 4am, I'm left scratching my gray haired balding head. Fake accounts, name calling, arguing, asterisks galore. We ask a question wondering why some things got deleted, there's some deep, inciteful, friendly conversation and we get the 🪓. I think I'll go listen to some Yoko Ono albums to cheer me up. Lol. Anyway, back to my original question, please, can someone tell me what happened that was so bad with "them". Nothing has changed that I can tell. Did someone steal their sweet roll? (Gamers are laughing).
  14. Hey, at least she had some #1 hits out of it. Seriously though ... she does have some #1 hits. Look it up. I lost all faith in humanity when I saw that. Lol. Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoko_Ono_discography
  15. Can someone please tell me what they did that what so awful?
  16. Yeah, but I hear they only record in 16bit. They should try 32.
  17. I don't know. I try to avoid the ban/delete/censor/mod intervention side of it anymore and just try to be as vanilla, harmless, non-confrontational, and agreeable as I can and I have become, comfortably dumb. I mean, numb. It ain't what it used to be and it never will be again. We've literally turned in to a bunch of aging men screaming at the kids to get off our lawn. But the kids are far worse these days. I got a post deleted and I was banned one time over something that was taken wrong by a few people here and it was reported. Many years ago. Me and the other person I said it to were both banned. We emailed each other and laughed and said what the heck just happened to us. Anyway, I stopped trying to figure it out and caring a long time ago. Or, it's some kind of technical glitch and humans weren't even involved. Either way, it's all good. Don't care anymore.
  18. I like to listen to my music to compare the mix to professional tracks once in a while but I get bored liatening to my stuff a lot. The last 4 songs I mixed and mastered when I got Ozone 9 Advanced are excellent compared to professional tracks and I do listen to then a lot. I'm astonished at how well they turned out. And I take no credit for that, it was 99% the software. But I normally only go through my library if someone is interested and I'm playing it for them, or it's been a long time since I listened. I really like Soundcloud. I can listen anywhere through my cell. I recently got a Bose Soundlink Revolve + Series II speaker to listen while working and stream Soundcloud and YouTube Music through it. Those are very revealing, just like their Wave Radio's. If anything is wrong in the mix they over-emphasizes it. And they do sound great. A shocking amount of bass. My last 4 masters fit right in with pro masters. So does my stuff from when I was 100% analog. The stuff in between analog and O9A needs a major revisit. Hah. I found out the other day that I can get a second one of those Bose Revolve and use their app to set them up for stereo. Been dying to get a second one now. When a song speaks to me, I obsess over it and have to record it and get it out of my system. Then I seem to lose interest in it for a very long time and come back to it eventually to see how well I mixed and mastered it. Sometimes I'll pull it back up in my DAW and make changes then it will sit a long time again. I've gone back and remixed and remastered songs that were over 15 years old. Especially as my listening equipment improved over the years and I could hear my errors better.
  19. I've tried the LA2A and 1176 on electric DI guitar and bass, mic'd acoustic, vocals, sampled drums. I've never gotten in to recording live drums properly. At the time there weren't DAW's and I didnt have access to the hardware.
  20. There's so many to choose from in VST format that it gets difficult to decide. They don't all sound the same. In the end I landed on the one that came with the DAW I use. I think it was a reasonably priced add-on iirc. I always liked the one that comes with GR too, but it's too difficult to use wrapped up in the GR package. There was a free one floating around for years that the internet forums raved about saying it was identical to the hardware. It sounded awful to me. Maybe I just don't like what they do and the one I ended up with was altered enough to where I did. 🤷‍♂️
  21. Nice rack. Pun intended. On a serious note, what does the distressor do? I've never seen or heard of a unit like that.
  22. I think the reason desktop sales are slowing is because of the obscene cost of the graphics cards caused by bit mining. If you want a decent 4K-UHD PC you're going to drop $5K easily. Then add a 4K-UHD capable monitor on top of that. Then spend that again in two to three years when the newest games and software come out that requires a better GPU than you have. You may be forced to upgrade the CPU so it is capable of unlocking the full potential of that new GPU. And you may be forced to upgrade the MOBO to unlock the full potential of the CPU you had to upgrade. But you can save some money by buying RAM that is overclockable, although you may have to replace that every one to two years. Sorry, no warranty on overclockable RAM, but they'll sell it to you anyway and give you free software to do it in real-time from your desktop without going in to BIOS. In other words just throw it all out and spend five grand minimum every 3 years to keep up with the software. On second thought, just buy a cheap console for gaming with crappy graphics and use a much less expensive PC for not so demanding tasks.
