@Paul Bush Hey Paul solid backbeat now ! Feels much better, drums support that amazing guitar . . . curious listeners may want to know, did you just rework the drums, or did you use the  @JohnnyV method of dragging guitar to the timeline to create a tempo map ? Either way, you got a solid result . . .

Hi Noynekker, well to be honest ,I just marked dragged the finished song drum patterns from EZdrummer 2 to the midi chanel  like the first time, its possible that the first time it wasnt tight to the start line ?  I then used the midi map to cut and add some fill beats and that was that it really , some of the fills in EZD sometimes just dont work so they need some tweaking , and as you know I´m not much of a tweaker , I turned up the backing vocals and the bass and panned it slightly right and that was that .....Thnks for the nice comments as I said its good that you all keep me on my toes , much appreciated ...paul

  2. Hi chaps , due to popular demand I gave this one another bash , I´m really thankfull for all encouragment and intrest from all, of what i feel not worthy  , so I hope this is an improvement , once again cheers to you all  ...paul

  3. Hi Guys ,Once agian thanks for all the input .... well Ive been hard at it just tweaking the drums (fills) (EZdrums 2 ) and then in the midi channel and then cleaning up some slightly sloppy playing ie bass and guitar , moving the beats around in the midi channel is so time consuming but I think  i may have have cracked it (playing a hell of a lot air drummer)..cheers P

  4. Wow thanks guys ..yeah as always there´s some cliches in there . i had a lot of fun not trying for 3:30 minute song and just going for it...with my secondhand mexico strat and my new harley benton bass , recording took a long while not because it was difficult but because we`v had another really hot summer here in austria  and the studio was unbareable , once again thanks for all the positive input ..I´ll post again soon thanks P.......ps if anyone has the time to point out exactly  where the problem phases are  please fell free  Ive tunneled vision etc

  5. Oh well , loved that bloody great snare , recording was really out there , had a great live sound and then not , and yes there`s a zappa influence in there  for me ..saw him live in the`` london oval ´´ many years ago....... over 7 minutes didnt seem a second too long ..great stuff cheers paul ..Oh great guitar work ..

  6. Well thanks Jeff, and Earcandy , for those encouraging comments, as i said it stared out its life as an over complicated thing and turned out fine getting back to basic`s ,(I´m happy to be stuck in  the seventies, early eighties time warp ) I kept it as basic as  I could but still needed over 25 tracks (thats a lot for me) I`m  pleased with the drums being seperate 9 channels  gives them a super sound and moving them around giving space for other instruments etc   still learning by doing  so I took my time and  had fun , thanks for taking the time to comment .Paul

    EDIT#2:

A few more things you may want to try to get the timing sounding good:

    1. First off record two tracks: 1. an acoustic guitar basic track to the metronome and, 2. the VST drums that seem to fit with whatever beat per minute time you decide is correct. You can mute these two tracks later but they will be your timing reference so as to keep all instruments on the same page.

    2. Make sure Snap is enabled and set to at least 1/32.

    3. I use SI Drums and they will play to whatever BPM that you have specified.

    hope this helps????

Thanks Larry , lots to consider there, I use ezdrums they`ve got super sounds but in the mixer the toms are not seperate they`re in stereo .not really good , i think with my next song , I´m going to turn all effects off the drums (like this one)so that they are bone dry and very distinct much easyer to hear  , its just a case of finding a system to work with and keeping to it cheers paul

  9. Thankyou guys , for so much encouragment and kind words , squeeze, elvis costello ,john mellecamp , wow ! I´m particually pleased with this one as it really wasnt going anywhere at first , but as soon as I got the guitar sound right it sort of fell into place  it`s just so a basic song, all instruments are analogue except the drums so its down to just playing it the best I can ..vocals were not too high so it was easy to sing ,it was a lot of fun to record . I´ll be taking all the tips on board and rectifying them before the master  ..although I wont be fiddling about too much with mastering effects  one can go too far .

    thanks once again Paul

loved the groove, loved the topic! Your vocal does it credit, and nice bgv's as well!

My mix ears picked out the snare, I think it could be louder and have a higher tamber generally, perhaps whatever snare reverb is going on could have that reverb return cut away more of thelow-end reverb?  It's inviting just a bit of mix mud.

Timing issues for the bass? Listen closely at :59 and at 1:25, I think the bass guitar is coming in just a bit early? That examination might help other parts of your song as well.

Your vocals really do carry it, though, and when the groove is in sync, it's working big time.

    cheers,

    -Tom

Hi Tom thanks for some really good advice , It makes it so much easyer to rectify when one states where ( time ) some of the faults lie , cheers paul

Hi Paul. Really enjoyed the song. It reminded me of something Squeeze would have written.

I heard timing issues here and there but as Tom says your vocal carries it.

Hi Daryl, cheers, This song started it`s life out way too complicated and trying to be over clever so after three weeks .. I dumbed it down to three chords, fell over the easy riff and well the rest was easy , sometimes I try to write something completely different  and it ends up a jumbled mess , I had  a lot of fun with this one double tracking all the guitars (my self built Telecaster) and using just reverb and compressors .

  12. Hi Bjorn , thanks for the nice comments , I now know what Ive been doing wrong with all of my previous songs , Ive been using Ezdrummer and when recording I havent had the drums completely  dry  no overhead , or room ambience etc so they get lost in the wash (schoolboy error) this time everything was turned off making the drums really ``in yer face´´ direct ,making it easy to keep time ,then I added effects later ,

  13. Hi Chaps , so I deleted that badly named ``match made in heaven´´ re named it  ``A Fool`s Love´´ with lots of changes  and aslo managed to find the green button on bandlab so it should play , any tips, idea`s would be more than welcome cheers  paul

Thanks Rick   and Hi chaps , I think I managed it by going to library and ``shared ´´ didnt find a green ``publish´´ button . I cant belive that this choice isnt at the same place where the  default ``private´´ button is.... seems logical to me  as i said thanks for taking the time to help

If for any reason it still doesnt work please send a quick note ......cheers paul.... .sometimes the simple things are just so difficult  (good line that)

  15. Sorry please ignore this song something went wrong with bandlab  I´m pretty sure I should have pressed ``fork´´ to erase the private ikon  ?? fork ??? are you sure??.....

  16. Hi Chaps , this one  is a pre pre master stage...  vocals will be re recorded and drums must be seperated and compressed so Its a bit rough around the edges , would be nice to hear a few tips fro you all (backing vocals are a tich too loud etc , the last time I uploaded from bandlab ``private´´ ikon was on couldnt work out how to make it public after a while I managed  it .. many weeks later Ive forgotton how to do it ..

Haha Cheers Paul, the 30 second music clip I first was a couple hours jamming and I was not going to do anymore until people said carry on. To be fair it was a struggle and in total four weeks in evenings including some extra hours at the weekends. That is long for me because I like banging stuff out in couple of weeks. I was messing with lots of sampling which was very time consuming with my voice, the side chaining and gating with quite a bit going on round it was tricky, like some people say vocal maybe bit lounder. I was trying loads of things out and got carried away so had to stop.

In between breaks (ears a rest) I animated the heart with headphones as I seen it on a tshirt lol, so I started in illustrator in vectors export to animation program to make movement tweaks (I know some basic animation) I did work in video and Sounds engineer for ITV. Was very time consuming so I cut corners and managed all animation with lip syncing in one evening. Did not take that long because I looped little movements and “cut them up and stuck them back together” to make them look different from one 30 second dance sequence, so saved me many hours. I can do good animation but so time consuming. You could spend all year doing a 10 min skilful sequence.

Key frames within the video edit was pretty quick layering the animation over the top of my desktop was one evening job. The whole project one month but cut mega corners on the video. I try to set myself time limits with work flow so I always know how long a project will take if someone asks me to mix or master. So I don’t get entrenched doing one thing and getting ***** with tweaks and changes but commit. I could take months doing one song without a video.

    Sorry long reply

So.... Knit one, pearl one , cross , knit one , pearl one, dropped one bugger cross ??? thanks ,,,,,,, and regards fom my knitting circle
