  1. The nag screen and small number of omissions with regards to functionality I feel are a small price to pay for such a comprehensive, free program.  I am able to open songs from Sonar V2, V5, V8.5. (Bloody hell Harry!!).

  2. HI

I think this will be the right place to post considering. I have a new Music PC arriving this week from SCAN in the UK. I have used Sonar since V2. And stuck with Sonar Producer 8.5.3 till the arrival of CWbB.  I will be installing the free tier of SONAR (already have it installed on the old system) but need to think what to install if at all from the old ones).

In terms of instruments I will install from the old 8.5 (I have this on DVDs) - Dimension Pro, Rapture, True Pianos, Z3ta+.  For efx TS64, TL64, PX64 (these are in CWbB and the VX64 is in the new Sonar.

All the DX are in the new Sonar so no need to install from older versions. if I just install from 8.5 what I need, without installing the DAW. And install CWbB along with the new SONAR, I think it will cover things without loosing anything useful. I have backups of SI, Session Drummer 3 so can install seperately.

So to conclude install from 8.5 - just specific elements, not the DAW, from CWbB the full installation, SONAR - full installation

Any thought please ? Thanks in advance.

  3. Use your mouse and click on the small white bar just above the FX and drag it up. You will see the rest of your plugins. You can do the same on the sends by clicking and dragging up to reveal any sends you have (reverb/Delay etc)

  4. So, I would like to have a new Music PC. My old one I feel is lacking in a few places (it is 5+ years old, and a mishmash of old parts some going bacl to 2011).

I have decided after always using Intel that I can get a fairly decent Ryzen CPU for a decent price. And it seems Ryzen are now settled and comparable to Intel for music production.

    Spec :

Case : bequiet Pure Base 501

MOBO : Asus TUF gaming B650E wifi (though I will not be using wifi I have a cat 7 cable access)

    CPU : Ryzen 7 7700 8 core/16 thread 3.8 - 5.3GHz turbo 65w (using integrated graphics i don't game)

Cooler : be quiet Pure rock 2

    RAM : 32Gb (2x16gb) Corsair DDR5 Vemngeance 5600MHz

PSU : be quiet Pure Power 12M 80 Plus Gold

OS drive : 1TB WD Blue SN5000 NVMe PCIe 4.0

    Storage : 2TB WD Blue SN5000 NVMe PCIe 4.0

Plus I have 2x 1TB of Crucial MX500 ssd from the old system I will also use in this build

OS : W11 Home (I have always used home versions of windows and am unsure if pro would be a benefit)

All this would be approx £1025. Considering I paid more than that in 2011 for an i3- 540/4gb system in 2011. Seems to be fair-ish.

I could have an Intel system built around and i5-14600K for about £150 more. But the Intel history lately has made me think. And Ryzen seem on a par and work with Sonar/Cakewalk.

Any feed back appreciated. It's a simple build but capable I feel. I do not game it is purely for music creation. Thanks.

but is it free only for a month ?
    I see an expiring date .. 22.07.2025 ... and after ...?

You just need to ensure you are online and signed in or around that date. It will renew for another month as CWbB does at present.

  6. Just want to say thank you. been using Sonar since V2. And was happy with Cakewalk by Bandlab. Installed the new "free tier". No issues. It imported all my settings. Scanned all Vst without problems (incl some 32 bit stuff). And just tested some projects for a release that all imported fine (and seemed quicker to load, but may be my wishful thinking).

The "countdown" in order to use the program seems a small price to pay. And any withheld features don't appear to be a stumbling block. This should put Sonar back near the top for "free" DAW software. If I have any critisicm it is that having worked in Market Research for two decades. The launch could be better focussed and implemented.

With plans for a new audio PC to be built. I do feel I can stay now. After all decades of familiarity are not to be squandered. Again many thanks to the Bakers and Meng.

Is it tough to convert your instruments from one to another?

On the web page above it states it has an integrated format converter. So drop sf, acidized WAV onto it. I have all my Dimension Pro instruments also in Sforzando as a back up should DimPro ever stop working due to windows etc

  8. Got this off the KVR site

Preliminary native Linux ARM64+AMD64 build (link).

Preliminary native Windows 11 ARM64 build.

"bank.xml" style products are now registered at user level.

UI transpose now allows from -48:+48 semi.

    Fixed sample=*sine generator when oversampled.

CC7 and CC10 removed from 'generic controls - they are always in the main UI.

Implemented LFOX_depthadd like supported by Dimension Pro 1.5.

Polyaft modulation targets are now polyphonic.

Great work. The percussion/bass groove is perfect. The other instrumentation is complementing it with some great, well thought out chords that enhance it all into one coherent piece 🎶 🎵

Thanks Larry T.  Very kind of you !

Fantastic.  I love the combination of the percussion and other rhythmic elements with the sustained trumpet and keys.  The chord changes are excellent.

Thank you. Very encouraging and appreciated.

I enjoyed this -- it has a subtle vibe that draws the listener in. And, it's beautifully recorded -- reminds me of the work of Rudy Van Gelder. - ! - Allan.

Thank you Allan. Seems my lifetime of absorbing all my Blue Note albums did not go to waste ! Thank You
