  1. Just want to clarify: you are referring to the latest Cakewalk and the latest version of W10? Thanks.
  2. While the basic Crystal Ball can just answer yes/no questions, the advanced model gives details: "Cakewalk" will increasingly be recognized as a racist term, first informally then officially, will then be banned, and any non-person corporate entity using it will be sued for perpetuating the use of that word. https://digitalgallery.bgsu.edu/student/exhibits/show/race-in-us/african-americans/appropriation
  3. My Cakewalk shuts up on occasion. For example, if I have Cakewalk running and try to do too many other audio things on my PC, such as running some standalone soft synths, Cakewalk gets insulted and says, "I'm not gonna play any more until you give me some love and press my buttons in a good way!" ?
  4. Thanks for posting these @Jim Hurley. I had similar errors. Thanks to @scook for the quick turn around on the fixes. The latest version installs properly on my PC now. Thanks!!!
  5. Thanks for posting this deal and also to those who shared their positive experiences. I gave the free player demo a try and decided for my purposes this offer was indeed a deal. Since then I have been playing with it and find it is awesome for how it could fit in with my musical goals. In my admittedly limited experience with it so far, it has a lot to offer (control and programmability on a number of levels, an abundance of well-designed presets, etc.), is very flexible, sounds great, and is quite efficient (low CPU usage).
  6. I am curious to see if I have this issue. How long do you need to wait until CbB loses focus? I just tried 10 minutes and evidently not long enough.
  7. TY for tackling a number of issues related to found sounds, sound effects, etc. I have seen at least one site that said something to the effect that the sounds there were free to use (i.e., no royalties) without credit, but that if used and posted to various places on the internet, the artistic creation could not be copyrighted by the artist since the works would be flagged as having content owned by someone else. I decided not to save that link.
  8. I like consistency, too, but I have learned that often one person's improvements make extra work for someone else. So, I got used to moving some inserted tracks back down to the bottom where they were previously, in or out of a folder, deleting extra tracks and/or instances, etc. Gives me practice in being flexible--or following the advice of my mom: "Go with the flow." While I don't look forward to another change here, its nice to have the heads up so its not a surprise. ?
  9. I was under the impression that if we purchased (from the Cherry Audio Store) either the Eight Voice Instrument or the Voltage Modular version and then purchased the other of the two, there was a 20% discount on the second one. However, if you purchase them at the same time, there was no discount. Of course, that might have changed by now.
  10. Close, but not totally accurate: In brief, it was not included in CbB's Basic Workspace until recently (from what I have seen). As I understand it, the last line of Sonar products used to have Lenses. After a while Lenses became Workspaces in CbB. There have been on-going improvements (IMO) to Workspaces. Installations and Updates to CbB have factory Workspaces (Basic --> Advanced). The factory-supplied Workspaces have changed on occasion--tweaks for the better, IMO. From what I have seen the devs take into account feedback on the forum. For example, at one point the Basic Workspace was tweaked I suspect to make it easier on newcomers who were overwhelmed by the huge learning curve. Somewhere along the line, when the Basic Workspace was packaged for installation, it erroneously had a specific factory theme installed. Since this was unintended from what I read, the correct Basic Workspace was packaged in a later update/installation. As for the Event List being missing, ever since I started using CbB and Workspaces, the Basic Workspace excluded the Event List. I don't know if this was an oversight or what, but from what I have seen many users have observed/complained about it being missing. For at least a year, the best advice for getting the Event List back (IMO) was "Don't use the Basic Workspace." However as of now, its back!!!!!!!! ? If you never used the Basic Workspace (or a custom Workspace that excluded the Event List), your comment is 100% true. So you and many others were genuinely confused by people who couldn't find the Views > Event List. (That's what I suspected was the source of confusion when I asked earlier.) To clarify about the beauty of customized Workspaces (unless its been changed and I didn't notice it yet): All functionality for features excluded from specific Workspaces (personal / customized or factory supplied) doesn't work--shortcut / key-bindings, menu items, etc. (unless I missed some changes in Workspaces).
  11. I rarely use the so-called Smart Tool. But I do know the functionality can be programmed by right clicking on the button. Have you tried unchecking all of the button's functions? Maybe that leaves the button disabled (until we enable the behaviors).
  12. What don't you understand? (I hope the source of your confusion wasn't my link to another post I did earlier today. If it was, I can easily withdraw it.) UPDATE: Based on the flow of this thread, I have opted to address what might be the source of your confusion. For a while the factory supplied Basic Workspace didn't have the Event List enabled. So there are several threads where people asked, "Where is it?" Also, there are many replies advising changing the Workspace (choosing a non-Basic Workspace, editing the Basic Workspace and resaving it, etc.). As best as I can tell around January 2021, the Event List was added to the factory supplied Basic Workspace. JMO: As a long time Cakewalk user, I think the Event List is as basic as you can get for editing MIDI data, but I can understand how it might have been excluded in the first place. If my link to another thread as well as other related threads confused you, I hope this explanation remedies that. If the source of your confusion was not my link, maybe someone else can help you out.
  13. Does anyone know if the MSoundFactory is Multitimbral in the traditional sense (that is, we can have different programs/patches playing on different MIDI channels from a single instance)? Thanks.
  14. I could be wrong, but the Event List now shows up in the factory supplied Basic Workspace. (At least it does on my computers.)
  15. I have no desire to enter into a picayune debate asinine discussion with you.
  16. I Googled "xml lyrics" and got several hits. I am only slightly familiar with xml (reading files and making minor tweaks in them), but I am wondering if that's what you had in mind. I am totally unfamiliar with software that uses xml for music and lyrics, except for the examples I saw doing the search.
  17. I can relate in a sense. When Sonar went to the X series UI (Skylight) after Sonar 8.5, I was totally lost. However, over the years the UI became more and more familiar to me. In fact, I am still learning about features that were introduced after Sonar 8.5. I think you are at a major disadvantage since you never migrated to the X series (Sonar X1 and successors) after Sonar 4. In my personal experience, Cakewalk by Bandlab greatly improves upon the pre-X series, though I do miss a couple of the older ways of doing things. While you continue to use Sonar 4, you might want to look at some tutorials. Even the old CakeTV Sonar X1/X2/X3 videos might help you catch up in small pieces rather than trying to re-learn everything all at once. Also, there are many newer tutorials available for the the current Cakewalk that might bridge the gap between what you already know how to do with Sonar and what you missed from having never updated from Sonar 4.
  18. You missed the forest the first time. You are missing it here, too.
  19. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can clarify my admittedly vague memory, but I thought Staff View came when the sequencer was ported to Windows as an addition to Note View (which later became the PRV).
  20. I spoke only for myself. I was not speaking for a collective "we" as you asserted. I was clear to point out that while the question was a good one, we (the users) are not decision-makers. That being said, I disagree with your interpretation and analysis of what I wrote. But quite honestly, it is not worth debating.
