Unlike most of those other DAWs, Cakewalk is based on and uses a bunch of Windows software libraries (MFC, C++ runtime, etc). Things other DAWs don't (usually because those other DAWs are more cross platform so aren't tied to Windows only things). Plugins have always used a bizarre mix of system services (and Pace can be seen as a system service too). When the DAW and the plugin both try and use different versions of the same things, conflicts can happen. It has sometimes been why Cakewalk is slightly more picky about some plugins than other DAWs. It's all too easy for some other software to overwrite some shared C++ runtime library with a version it thinks is best and break someone else. Usually it boils down to broken installers. It can be due to a broken installer from a completely unrelated app even. And don't forget the endless Windows updates and driver updates. Plugins also use a bizarre mix of OpenGL/DirectX/GDI +/GDI for visuals which also has to work inside Cakewalk. In the summing up, all this defaults to having more risk for issues with Cakewalk than other DAWs. Deep integrity with Windows is often claimed as an advantage, but I start to see it more and more as a drawback. Other DAWs seem to be more independent from Windows issues. Sorry for the negative attitude here.

Thanks, I have a few of their cheap or free products from PB. I'm asking only about the free stuff from their free page where I could only find a way to get it through signing in to Soundcloud or pumpyoursound.com and follow some random names. Is it only me?

The sad part for me is some developers stop supporting win 8.1, like Celemony for example. Then you're forced to stick with this bizarre thing called Win10 if you want to keep using Melodyne. The problem is that Melodyne probably could still work on 8.1 but the installer doesn't allow to install on it anymore. Here's where my plans to go back to 8.1 fail. Sick ☹️

Yep, pretty impressive timesaver, in vein of S1 quick workflow a bit. Next... maybe a swipe over plugins in the console to bypass all of them in the same row with one swipe, pleeez?

I think I've read there's 6 or 7 minutes limitation on Bandlab. Maybe they did remove it?

I just checked and sadly it's true, the fades are simply there after disconnecting two clips. What you can do is to disconnect them in two step, first move one clip back to achieve smallest overlap possible then disconnect, you'll end up with much smaller fades. But it seems you can't disconnect two clips with fades going automatically back to zero. I'd call them semi-auto crossfades. Unless there's a setting somewhere to change that, buried in the menus, I think it's a bad design of the feature.

The only way to get them is to have an account on pumpyoursound.com or soundcloud, at least it is for me. I couldn't find another way. And I don't use these services. Wondering if I'm missing something.

Ok, so after another hour or more of digging in I finally succeeded(!) in making the signal to travel in full stereo from in to out and through only one of the racks just to discover that Fulltone TERC chorus module does collapse my stereo signal to mono as well! What the heck? The Fulltone delay respects stereo signal perfectly but not TERC chorus, it produces beautiful lush stereo effect especially sweet with the Preset button on but first it collapses my stereo to mono, bummer. Oddly I couldn't use routing matrix 2 for that because both racks did process the left/right signal independently no matter what, but routing 6 did the trick even though from the scheme that was unexpected for me. Had to play a lot with Pan, DI, Vol and the 'speaker' icon, not intuitive at all. If only TERC chorus could keep it stereo... oh well. Is there any chance to see TERC as an T-racks plugin in near future? This chorus is a golden!

Peter, I couldn't find it. All I have found is that if I select any of the stereo routing then either I have to pick a separate instance of TERC for each of the L/R side which makes no sense for a chorus, or the stereo signal is collapsed before entering rack module, which cancels any previous stereo effects. Could you please give a hint? I'm sitting in front of my amplitube now again fiddling with the settings... Cheers EDIT: any chance to see Fulltone as T-racks modules?

I don't know what is Pro Tools (at least we have Smart Tools in Cakewalk) but the title says "annual update renewal plan" so I read it as subscription .

I have a trackball with a big ring around the ball for scrolling. It's a perfect idea but it doesn't work for me when zooming. I always expect it to work in the opposite direction, and when I'm close to the song start when doing it (wrong) again - I mean I try to zoom in but zoom out occurs - then I loose my position because the view is shifted towards the song start but if I try to instantly undo it by zooming in, the view doesn't come back to the previous position anymore and I'm screwed. That's my zoom frustration.

electric and dx pianos... it's a missed opportunity that we can't run a stereo signal through the fulltone because all vsti use stereo output nowadays and collapsing to mono is a pita in such case

@Per Westin did you report it to Bandlab Support? If there is a bug in the fast export in Cakewalk it should be worth of attention.

Here's a simple one, theoretically: Double-click in the controller pane to select all events in that pane. If there are multiple controllers in a track this will allow for selecting all controllers of only one type with just a double-click. And a more advanced: If I have notes and multiple controllers in a track and only one type of controllers is selected then when I adjust the selection range I'd like the selection to stay focused on just that one type of controllers. For now it adds all other events in that track as well into selection, have to manually include/exclude them (or use filter) which is tedious. More of a feature request rather than a fix, I know.

And another one that is theoretically simple to implement: wish I could Ctrl+click (or any other key, doesn't matter) on an effect's on/off button in the console and instantly turn on and off, preferably gap-less, all effects that sit in the same slot on other channels. Simply said - the whole row of effects. Imagine someone likes to start with the same channel fx on every track, or filter. That could be a great way to compare the sound.

@CHCollins How do you get the note properties pop-up by right-clicking? I get note deleted here. Or did you mean double-click on the note (left click)? There are several ways to change velocity of a group of selected notes. The easiest would be typing in the Event Inspector module in the control bar. You can type a fixed value for all selected notes, place '+' or '-' before a number to add/subtract by the amount, even place a percentage there. Another great option is the Transform tool. But really, for an instant change just drag at the top of velocity tail to change only the selected notes, you can also shift+drag to scale the tails or ctrl+drag for anchored scale. There's even a setting in PRV view menu to show velocity tails for selected notes only (under Notes). On one thing I agree though that right-click on one of selected notes to show a pop-up where you can change properties of the whole group would be the most intuitive way .

Another one, although not so sure it's an easy tweak. There's a checkbox in preferences "Split MIDI notes" in Editing. I wish it could work this way: if OFF, when cropping a clip (slip-edit), the overlapping notes will be canceled i.e. if you shift the clip end over a note it will disappear, not change the length (same way as they are vanishing now when cropping the front of a clip) if ON, the start and/or end of the notes will be moved along with the start/end of the clip (the same way notes are shortened now at the end of the clip if you're overlapping them with the clip end, but they are not with the clip start)

Num 2/Num 8 to transpose half step up and down, ctrl+num 2/8 for octave transpose. But agree that Ctrl+up down are more intuitive. Perhaps there's a possibility to change that in keyboard shortcuts. don't have to double click, if that would be the case I would have already left Cakewalk for something else , just click-and-drag to create a note. Agree it's still one move away from single click but well, that's how it is (could be worse). And there's what Josh Wolfer said about juggling with the tools. If you mean events or notes than it works fine for me just need to be careful with how the selection works before duplicating. If you mean tracks then I think that's not what PRV is meant for. Your workflow may be way different though. Tend to agree with Josh, need to be careful when doing certain operations during playback, may cause the engine to go unstable or crash. Would love to have the engine more realtime playback-proof but that's not an 'least amount of work fix' OTOH: could be useful. Personally I'm missing Ctrl+Alt+Spacebar binding in keyboard shortcuts. I use it to step events one-by-one in Event View. I'd love to change the combination but it's missing in the Preferences. Also there's a small inconsistency when using it: if I press the combination and release it the way Ctrl key is released as last one then Play bar jumps back one event as it should, but if I release Alt as the last key, Play bar stays in place. Maybe it's deliberate, idk. Another one: clicking on the menu in any view, like the track view menu or console menu, opens the drop down menu but you can't click the second time to close it. You have to click somewhere else. That I believe should be a simple fix. In some views like the prv, staff or event view, picking previous/next track should appear as direct buttons on the menu bar. EDIT: I'm not a programmer so I assume that what we think an easy job could be much more work in fact (or maybe less) .
