  1. If you do as Lynn says it will set a marker without stopping the playback. But in the current version of CbB that marker is NOT the place the cursor will go to when you stop playback. If you hit "STOP" the transport will just stop. I don't know if there's a way to customize such a transport behavior. It used to be that if you hit "W" during playback the transport would return to zero (or to the beginning of a loop) and stop. After one of the latest updates, if you hit "W" the transport returns to zero (or the beginning of a loop) and keeps playing. Somebody brought this up in this forum and there didn't seem to be any way to go back to the way it was (which I think was better), so I'm guessing you won't be able to find a fix for your issue, either, but good luck!
  2. I can't specifically answer the question, but I can say that I have a Nektar MIDI keyboard that has faders and transport controls, and the only way it can work as both a MIDI controller and a DAW controller is to install a specific driver. So you might check with the manufacturer of your keyboard and see if there is such a driver for it.
  3. Thanks as always, @scook! I hit play and rewind a couple of times and I was able to save my project.
  4. What does this mean? When I save this project, it appears to be saving it, but then a message box pops up titled "Cakewalk," with the message "General Error" and an OK button. No further information. I can keep working on the project, but yesterday I got this same error on closing the project and I retried a few times, then I just closed the project, hoping one of the save attempts worked. But no: I can no longer open that project because "The file is truncated." Opening in safe mode gives me an empty project. Today I'm working on an old safety copy of that project, and it's been fine for eight hours (saved several times successfully), but now I'm back to "General Error" when I go to save. I get the same error when I try to save a copy. Anybody have an idea about this, or seen it before? Thanks! UPDATE: The last thing I did before the above problem happened was to archive four MIDI tracks and four audio tracks, I just un-archived those tracks and I was able to save the project. Don't know if these things are related, but thought I'd mention it, just in case.
  5. Include this article and this one in your research.
  6. No reason a 2012 Windows 8 PC wouldn't work, as long as it's the 64-bit version. I'm using a machine at least that old, although it's running Win10. As I recall, though, there's an 8.1 update that you should get from Microsoft.
  7. Thanks for clearing that up for me, @msmcleodMark. Generically, I've always thought timbre refers more or less to tone, which led me to think that "multitimbral" would refer to a voice or an instrument with many different tonal facets, as opposed to completely different voices or instruments singing and playing completely different notes and rhythms.
  8. Not much of a synth/MIDI expert myself, but I'm guessing the OP means a soft synth capable of playing a bunch of different instruments simultaneously on different MIDI channels. I'm vague on the terminology but would that be "multivoice?" Or some other "multi-?"
  9. I'm going to have to defer to someone smarter than I to figure out your issue here, but while we wait for that person you should maybe ask yourself what are you doing differently from the good old days when it always worked? And why are you turning off your audio interface?
  10. Don't know. Can't test right now. You might want to make a copy of your project for safekeeping in case this doesn't work the way you want it to. Best of luck.
  11. Turn on Ripple Editing Copy the tracks/measures you want to insert somewhere. Select all tracks Put the cursor where you want to insert Paste (the copied tracks will go in and all the existing tracks will move over) Turn off Ripple Editing Assuming you're using a recent version of CbB.
  12. Right. That's why I was hoping the two versions would live tagether and separately on my system. When working with my long-distance partner I'll use the base version he has.
  13. Thanks guys! I got this email from e-instruments this morning: So, fingers crossed, I'm going for the upgrade.
  14. I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum. This is where it belongs. Sorry for crossposting: I'm looking at upgrading my NI Session Horns to Session Horns Pro during this sale, and I wonder if any of you know the answers to these two questions: Will Session Horns Pro replace Session Horns on my PC, or will they live together and be usable separately? Will Session Horns Pro play my existing tracks exactly as I made them with Session Horns? I haven't been able to find answers on the Native Instruments website. I'd like to be able to keep using my existing horn tracks, and I'd like to be able to share editable MIDI horn tracks with a friend who has Session Horns but won't be upgrading. Thanks! ON EDIT: I have emailed e-instruments who make this sample library, and still waiting to hear back.

But if anyone is wondering, I found out that the base version and the "pro" version will both be installed and separately usable, and my existing tracks created with the base version will still work.
  16. The problem was in Mix Control, although I don't understand why. I normally use "Mix 1" and when I looked at it just now it was set to "Mix 3." Switching back and forth while looking at all the settings, the two mixes appear to be identical, but theunstoppable audio goes away when it's set to "Mix 1," and comes back when it's set to "Mix 3." I'm happy to get back to work, but WTH? Thank you for the pointer. I hope some day to buy you a cup of coffee. ?
  17. This is not specifically a CbB issue, but it is stopping me from using CbB, so I'm hoping someone here has an idea of where to look for a solution. I haven't used my music PC for anything but MIDI for the past few months. Today I plugged a guitar into my interface (Scarlett 6i6) and the audio is somehow feeding into the system and can't be silenced. I hear the guitar even without loading Cakewalk -- even without loading any programs at all. When I have Cakewalk open to a project I can hear the guitar even when I have no input echo on. When I echo the guitar track I can hear it through the amp sim and through the system. In Windows Sound settings the line out and line in is my Scarlett, as always. In Windows Sound Control Panel Playback all the Realtek stuff is disabled and the Scarlett is the default line out In Windows Sound Control Panel Recording all the Realtek stuff is disabled and the Scarlett is the default line in I don't recall any changes I may have made to any audio settings -- this seems to have happened on its own (a likely story, I know.) Thanks for any ideas!
  18. Thank you, Steve! That fixed the jerky cursor. I still have a funny little sound when I stop the transport -- not what I described above, but more like a little squeak. I should also mention that during the time I was not using CbB I had a Microsoft update. I'm now on Window 10, Version 1903 (OS Build 18.362.388). Don't know what I was on before when the transport wasn't squeaking, but this one didn't seem like a huge update from MS.
  19. Just got around to downloading and trying Version 2019.09 (Build 70, 64 bit), and the first thing I have noticed is herky jerky movement of the timeline cursor as it tries to track the song. I'm using a simple template with Addictive Drums, Dimension Pro for bass, True Pianos and a track for direct electric guitar. The jerky motion happens on record and playback, although the sound doesn't seem to be affected. Also, when I stop the transport (either while recording or playing back), there's a little sound out of the monitors, kind of like a footstep on gravel, very short, very low level, but audible. I've only experimented with MIDI piano, so it's not as if I'm overloading anything, and this hasn't happened before that I recall. Anyone have any ideas? What to try? Thanks!
  20. I use a first gen 6i6 with CbB. My projects are not too intense - 30 or 40 tracks, audio and MIDI. Round trip latency is acceptable to me, but I haven't adjusted the buffers in so long I can't remember what the settings are. I think RTL playing guitar through a sim is 10 - 12 msec. I understand the second gen units are faster, and the software mixer is much better. Focusrite MixControl (which comes with the 1st gen) is not user friendly. Overall, though, I'm happy with my 6i6. Best of luck.
  21. I disabled all onboard audio drivers permanently, and switched to asio. I use it both for recording and playback as well as YouTube and other windows sounds. You have to make sure you set the sample rate and bit depth in Windows to the same as you're using in Cakewalk.
  22. The fact that you're concerned about this issue indicates you don't want to release your work with this amount of distortion on the CP-30. Nothing suggested so far in the thread will actually eliminate the distortion. I'd say it's time to fire up whatever synth you still have, play the part again, and consider this a lesson for the future.
  23. I've been trying to do this for the past couple of weeks. I wouldn't say there's no way, but so far I haven't found a good way. I insert Addictive Drums, arm the MIDI track, record kick drum for, let's say, eight bars, RTZ, record snare or hat or something (in sound on sound mode). My goal is to create a 2- or 4-bar pattern and save it as an Acid loop. But, maybe due to my ineptitude at thinking like a drummer (I am not one), so far no love. On edit: But to your original post, @Craig Anderton, I think you might be on the wrong track suggesting Reason as an accessory to CbB (objections appearing elsewhere in this thread), but an article that simply describes how to rewire anything to CbB, with some examples of useful techniques would be interesting to me.
  24. Good to know my vast ignorance might finally come in handy for somebody. @Craig Anderton, feel free to PM me if you'd like to know what else I don't know, about ReWire or... anything.
