This just in.........
-
You must be the only one here that hasn't. ?
-
It's probably still growing somewhere.
-
Typical.
-
You don't need EZ bass for that. You can already do it in CW. Just drag the audio clip to a midi track.

Bapu's got himself lawyered up against his own geetar? Only in America.?

It's after Monday 19th July, 2021......where's the music?

I know what was causing the crash. I don't understand why an existing project that had always been fine before should suddenly decide that it does not like one instance of a particular plug-in but it doesn't mind the other instance of it, but there you go, that's computers for you. One day you love them, the next you'd cheerfully lob the thing out the window, but my point was that given that there were none of these HD filling crash files pre-dating the current month it seems that something is now "on" that was "off" before. It would be nice to be able to put it back the way it was to save having to delete them.

He's just biding his time watching to see how long it takes you all to start flirting with another guy.?
-
Now I'm gonna be up all night wondering what the other 24 would be.........
-
Isn't that what Strummy calls Bapu?
-
Oh and IBTD.?

I think your brother is about to be very disappointed. Basically nothing has changed at all and it isn't going to anytime soon because no "emergency" would mean that certain products that are only authorised for emergency use can no longer be used. Anyway, back OT .........More expensive fire wood for Bapu, or is EZ bass not all it's cracked up to be after all ??

I understand that it must be equally frustrating to you as I'm sure you are aware that this subject has come up periodically on the forum for as long as I can remember and I don't recall anyone ever having reported finding the missing audio file, so as you say it appears that for some reason it just doesn't get written. I'm not computer savvy enough to know where to look beyond the obvious places (take lanes/project audio file) so I don't know how to help you other than to say that when I have looked in those places before it isn't there and that if it's any kind of clue at all I don't recall it ever happening on consecutive takes. I can't think of there being any kind of pattern to it (ie it's always the first take in a particular session or it only happens after I've been doing it for x amount of time or anything like that). The plug-ins that may be present in any given project are usually much the same in the recording phase as I tend to use the same custom template each time, but of course there are times when having entered the more serious mixing phase that I will decide that a particular section needs re-doing, so who knows what plug-ins are present by then compared to normal although having an older pc that by compared to some is about as quick as an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping, I would usually have to bypass the more intensive cpu munching ones anyway if recording anything in the latter stages of mixing. I have never used positive grid plug-ins so I can say that it isn't related to that in my case. I also only ever use sound on sound mode with auto punch disabled if that helps to narrow anything down. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

FWIW I have had this happen to me now and again over the years in various versions - seemingly always a take when I thought I had just nailed it and never ever on the one where I coughed half way through (??). It's funny that this thread has re-emerged now as I hadn't seen the issue for quite a while and then it happened a couple of days ago. I didn't bother taking notes or anything because I guess I've just come to accept that this sometimes happens now and nobody knows why, so I just curse and start again - the last thing I want to do is ruin the moment by spending time digging around to see where, if anywhere, it might have gone. As others have said, the waveform is there being drawn before my eyes in all it's glorious freshness, press stop and it's gone. If it's any help to Noel, I don't think that I've ever had it happen twice in a row, the next attempt usually sticks. You know, the one that I fluffed again, lol. To save Noel asking, I'm on 2020.09 at the moment, but this issue goes way back, maybe even as far back as when Mr and Mrs Sonar Number-Version were still deciding what to call their new child......... .I actually avoided X1/X2 so can't speak for those versions, but it was certainly a thing that happened in X3 onwards if not before.

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but you're doing it all wrong. You're only supposed to make them think that it was their idea.

Quoting you, but comment directed at OP.... Whilst I agree that this would cover what you are asking and could be a very useful tool, definitely demo before buying. In my experience it's really quite buggy and prone to freezing up during use in Cakewalk, which is not listed on their list of "approved" DAWs, maybe for this reason.

In Before The Delete? Not for me Zo, but you know.....some people prefer to have all their thinking done for them.?
-
Yes. I know and have confirmed due to another crash yesterday what they are and where they come from (ie cakewalk crashes) , but I still don't know why according to the dates of the files it has never happened prior to July 2021 given that nothing has been updated/changed on the PC for quite a long time, so it's like something became activated somehow that wasn't before. If so, it would be nice to know how to turn it off again, but at least I now know where to look first when the OS HD starts filling up for no apparent reason.
-
Yeah, I figured that with the CW files the clue was that they were in a folder called "temp" so I already moved them to an external HD awaiting confirmation that it was ok to bin them completely. Funny how there are none prior to this month though as nothing has been changed on the pc.
-
Curiosity as to why OS HD seems to be filling up rapidly led me to the location Users/Owner/AppData/Local/Temp which contains about 20GB of files that I'm guessing must be CW related given that the PC in question isn't used for anything else. There are 15 or so .HDMP files ranging from 1.1GB to 1.3GB in size and all are recent (last 2 weeks). I have been having some problems with a particular project crashing (now solved) so I guess this is related to that. A lot of guesswork though, right? The questions this raises is can I delete them and why only recently - it's not like CW has never crashed on me before over the years.? If they are crash related, where did all the years worth of others go? Further delving led to Users/Owner/My Documents/Celemony/Separations which contains about 10GB worth of many files. Guesswork suggests that these are Melodyne clip related. Given that I only ever use Melodyne in CW via ARA and always bounce to clip when I'm finished (old habit from v-vocal days) can I also delete these as the audio I want is within the project folder, right? Or not? TIA

You had it easy....
