Thanks, Bob. Regarding Ginger-I got a call from the vet's office today and they did something very kind. They made a plaster cast of her paw print in the shape of a heart. It's adorable. It's the perfect keepsake. I cried again when they gave it to me. I miss her so much.? Thanks Bjorn! ?JB

Yeah. You could invite Meng and Noel and ask them again.? (Not that you'll believe them).

No. I got better things to do with my time. ?

So, one person asks a question like "why is CbB free?" and it results in 8 pages (so far) of responses and discussions. This happens so much that I really believe that some of you must have an insecure feeling that Meng and company are just going to someday soon come along and pull the rug out from this whole thing and we will all be without this program. Do some of us doubt Meng or Noel? Even the guy at NAMM said something like it will be free FOREVER!! Is the old saying "If something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is" creeping through some of our minds? Don't you trust them? I do. Stop worrying and enjoy making music! ?John B

I grew up in the 60s with the 45 RPM single and 12" 33 & 1/3 album (as many of you probably have or are at least familiar with). I know that even with the resurgence of vinyl albums the 45 RPM single is not making a come back. Maybe they should consider bringing the 45 RPM singles back too. I mean, why not? If people don't mind the clicks and pops on the LPs today they shouldn't mind it on the singles either. The can make them out of the super 180grain (or whatever) kind of vinyl too. With me, I don't really care much what the music's on. My biggest concern is how it sounds. And for my money the CD (Digital) at least so far is as clean a format as music was ever presented. I know these new vinyl lovers talk about the "warmth of analogue" and if that's what they love fine. To each his/her own. But I just can't hear warmth in vinyl, but I don't listen to music to hear warmth. I listen to music to hear music. I want to hear just music and not hiss or clicks and pops (or wow & flutter or any of of the old artifacts that came with records pre CD). I like to hear pure music and the CD (or any other form of DIGITAL) gives me that. Don't get me wrong. I respect the vinyl. It was Edison's baby and it gave people a way to listen to and appreciate music in a way they could only dream of before it existed and for over 100 years it was the mainstay of music. It's production process was also fascinating. But as with almost everything, somebody comes up with a new invention or process to make things better. In music, it was digital (via the CD at first). There will always be a place in my heart for LPs. Vinyl gave me music in my young years and showed me how much of a joy it could bring me. But I always wished it could be cleaner sounding and closer to live performance. The CDs came along and gave me that too. ?JB

Beautiful piece of work. Brings down the blood pressure and makes one ponder the awesomeness of the universe. Agree with the Frankin Institute planetarium. I've been there too, although not in several years but I remember how great the show was. There's another planetarium just a few blocks from my home. Been to that one a few times. Nice, but not quite as nice as the FI. ?John B.

EDIT-Tried to replace with new URL because I wanted to boost volume of audio. Cannot remove video below so if you click on it it will not work. Here is the URL with the explanation of the video. Follow the URL directly below. Thanks. PS-If anybody could explain to me HOW to remove the dead link at the bottom I'd appreciate if you could let me know how. Thanks! ?John B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnWKcj3gNhg

Simple but clever. I really love the delay on the voice, but you might want to try setting whatever delay you're using to coincide with the tempo of your song. It sounds like it drifts a bit at places. ?John B

Hey, where's the beagle avatar??!! ? As always, you have a great message. On my speakers your vocals are a bit too far upfront. Yes, vocals should always be the center of the song, especially in a song with as an important message as this, but I can barely hear your instruments at all, except your drums. Your guitar could come up a bit. ?John B.

Sound like a common chord progression but I still like what you did with it. Very pretty arrangement. ?John B

Just a conversation starter for the Coffee House. ? Last week I bought the new release by one of my favorite artists. "Fool" by Joe Jackson. It's a great album and I love every track on it. Weird thing I take notice is that it only has 8 tracks and the total time is less than 43 minutes. I'm not complaining as Mr. Jackson gave me my moneys worth of great new music but the short length made me wonder if this might be a coming trend. Most albums released today that I've seen exceed an hour so I'm figuring that perhaps the new trend will be shorter album lengths again like back in the pre CD days. Perhaps this might have to do with the fact that many people are trending back to vinyl LPs and it always was difficult to fit an hours worth of music on a 12" vinyl disc. Other thoughts on this? EDIT-Even though I bought the above mentioned album on CD, it is also available on vinyl, which is what got me thinking about what I suggested above. ?John B.

You're being a bit uppity here, aren't you? First of all, unlike you, I'm NOT always in the middle of a project. Sometimes after I finish one I can go weeks and weeks in between. But when I'm in the middle of one I don't want to find myself dealing with a DAW that doesn't load or has developed other bugs that impede it's functionality. If I see others having issues (as I saw with this particular update) I hold off until my current project is finished. THEN I DO THE "TESTING" MYSELF! Also, who in the hell said anything about a DEMO?! I've been using Cakewalk by Bandlab since April 2018. The issue is an UPDATE! Free or not, a DAW that suddenly doesn't function well (because of a new bug or whatever) is useless at least until the bug is fixed. I just wanted to make myself clear. Sorry if I offended your sensitivities. Thank you for all your useful contributions to the cause. JB

Not familiar with original version, but I find yours very nice. Great vocal work and the little string bit going on is very tasteful. ?John B

Thank you all for your kind words & thoughts. After thinking on it all week the thing that bothers me the most is how it happened on Tuesday morning. I got up at 3 AM to feed her (not unusual) and she seemed fine. She was hungry and ready as always to eat her breakfast. I then went back to bed and came back out at 5. After I showered I took notice that she had vomited 3 times on the floor. It was clear and mucousy despite the fact that there was food in her stomach (she cleaned out her bowl, so she was hungry). A few minutes later she started dry heaving and her belly was as solid as a football. Then I knew something was wrong. It was too early to call the vet but her symptoms got worse and worse till she was barking and whimpering (she rarely barked). My baby must have been in such terrible pain and I felt so bad because I couldn't help her. It seemed like forever till my vet's office opened and I could take her down there. I was hoping it was something that could be cured but I was also preparing myself for the end because of her age. Sure enough, the vet said it was probably cancer and there wasn't much she could do for Ginger. She suggested putting her down. I wanted to hold her but she was so uncomfortable I didn't want to make her hurt more. I told her I loved her and thanked her for blessing my life for 15 years. The worst thing is that I couldn't take her pain away. Her daddy couldn't help her. I never felt so helpless in my life. I can't get Tuesday morning off my mind. ?

Cakewalk Forums General vs Q&A confusion

FWIW-Ran the updates on both assistant and CbB and everything went fine, so the issue, at least on my end, is solved. Thanks for the backup tips. ?JB

Yeah, I think I'll keep it there for awhile. What you said about pets making the world a better place is so true. There is so much stupidity going on in the world around us and every day it seems as if the world as I know it and grew up in is falling apart piece by piece. When it starts to get too much for me I put on a youtube video of some puppy dogs or pussy cats and I instantly feel better. Sometimes I really think that they are smarter than people. ?JB

Yes. In every way Ginger was my little girl. Losing her hurts as much as losing a family member, and I've lost quite a few of those in the past few years. Sally is a pretty name for a puppy.

Just wanted to share the news with you guys that the little girl that is on my avatar pick had to be put down this morning because of probable cancer. She would've been 16 years old this coming August 29. She was my "Honey Girl" and I will miss her. It's very painful. Her name was Ginger. She was a good girl. I'm debating whether to replace her pic with a new avatar or keep it there for a memorial. What say you? ?John B.

I never have either, John. But I always check this forum first, just to be sure and I look for red flags. Haven't seen too many since they started but I am concerning this particular update. There is another little "alert" up today. I think Mudgel's advise on holding off until my project is finished is valid, but I also learned something from Scook about backing up previous versions. I might try that. ?JB

Two very recent posts-"Hey Bandlab" by Geo524 and "Latest Version of Cakewalk Not Working" by Chazz, although upon checking now it seems that one had a problem with a Mackie Onyx interface that was resolved. I probably just would've thrown caution to the wind if I wasn't mid project. Why an interface would interfere with it I can't understand but maybe they'll address that with the next bug fix. The updates (so far) have never been an issue with my Focusrite. ?JB

Sorry to waste bandwidth, but I'm just checking to verify that the updates for Bandlab Assistant and the Cakewalk by Bandlab are safe to DL and install. I usually check with this forum whenever one is released to see if anybody is having any issues and I'm seeing some posts with minor issues. I'm in the middle of a project and I don't want to lose time on it because the DAW won't open, but if you guys say it's OK I'll take your word(s). ?Thanks John B.

Admin, please forgive my double post, but I first tried to post this on the Q&A part and I'm really hoping for an answer on this soon. It seems as if most of the activity is here so I don't know how much the general population of the forum is yet into the concept of a separate Q&A area, but it seems pretty sparse over there, so I'll try putting it here. My question is the type that over on the old forum I would've gotten an answer in about a half hour, (but maybe not). Feel free to send me some hate mail threatening to whip my a$$ with a wet noodle if I offended you. (Mercy though?) My question: I'm working on a piece that has a piano intro which I'm making in EZ Keys. I don't want the intro too stiff time wise, but rather "breathe" like a human player would. Would I use Groove Quantize for that? I tried it but it only seems to make the velocity louder, which I DO NOT want. I mainly just want the timing to flow a bit. What's the best way to accomplish that? Thanks ?John B.

Thanks so much, Tommy. I have the acoustic panels, but I don't know how much good they are doing. Maybe an improvement for the vocals but the mix environment not so much. I've been using ARC 2.5 for that. ?John B.
