Is This the Greatest Photo in Jazz History?
Johnbee58 replied to S.L.I.P.'s topic in The Coffee House
They certainly were four of the biggest giants in Jazz history! ?John B -
Well, you should definitely pay close attention to the current situations mentioned in the video I linked, but if you choose to ignore it, it's your funeral, my friend. ?John B

You're serious? You don't know who Bill Cosby is? Maybe you're not American but he's a very popular TV personality and comedian who was busted in recent years by the so called #Metoo movement (man hating feminists, for the most part). A bunch of women came out after some 30+ years to claim he sexually assaulted them. Why they waited that long to report a rape is the question of the century. But they all ganged up on him and as the result of one, he is currently in a PA (USA) prison for drugging a women in the 1980 to seduce her. He's 81 years old and legally blind. It's a controversy whether or not he was fairly tried. More details here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cosby ?John B

Man, this is a cerebral piece if I ever seen one! Looks like you put your whole heart and soul into is. I like both the song and the video. I'd really like to experience this on a huge plasma TV. Where did you get the footage of the guy who's talking? Is he a music professor of some kind. I like his message. ?John B

I like the song, especially the low piano (I love the low register notes on a grand piano). Your vocal and harmonies are right on as is your arrangement. My only nit is in the mix. Sounds to my ears that you have your instruments hard panned too much. When I listen on headphones it sounds like I'm in a tunnel with everything to the extreme right or left except your voice(s). ?John B BTW- I let the next song, "Defying Gravity" play. Outstanding piece of music!

Serious vulnerability in Windows 7 / Google Chrome
Johnbee58 replied to msmcleod's topic in The Coffee House
I've been hearing that this year is the last for support for Win 7 and that we should upgrade to Win 10 by January of 2020 to avoid security disasters. Tell me, is it possible for me to upgrade to Windows 10 on my 6 year old laptop? Or should I just consider replacing it? BTW, I don't use the above mentioned laptop for music production, just general computing. ?John B. -
Look out, guys! We're all about to become Bill Cosby! Get's especially troubling @14:51.

Oh HELL NO! They took away the Boy Scouts and they're working to screw us out of Father's Day too! They simply cannot have any more toxic masculinity. Men are an endangered species.

Solved (thanks!!) Can i buy an ad free forum experience?
Johnbee58 replied to Gswitz's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I use Privacy Badger but not on my dedicated music computer. I hate the kind of ads that just pop up in your face. I HATE those damned things! When you were a kid your mom probably told you to not interrupt. I guess these idiots that program these annoying ad programs never had any upbringing. I just seriously hope they never wind up on the DAW (remember that's free too). It would make me nuclear to have to wait for a damned commercial to play before I could work on a session!? JB? -
Well, to tell the truth, at the time when I saw that error, I was breathing pretty heavy. I just got done with a session which was several hours long and finally at the completion of a new project. I was rendering the final mix and I would've exploded in anger to come that far and find I had a permanently corrupted project. That would've been catastrophic. It's kind of typical with me that if I'm going to have a major crisis working on a project, it comes at the very end. Enough to drive any artist completely nutz!!? ?JB

I thought the error message came from Cakewalk. ?

Yesterday, when I was about to render a project to a WAV file, after I chose File/Export Audio to desktop an error came up saying something like a "Catastrophic Error has occurred. Mixdown cannot be performed! " I may be paraphrasing a bit there but that was essentially the message. I rebooted my PC and went back into the project and tried again with success, but I'm wondering if I got that error because maybe I forgot pick any tracks to bounce (which is a possibility). I remember when I used Sonar X3 Studio and I forgot to choose audio to bounce it would say something like "Operation cannot be performed because no audio was selected." Could it be that Cakewalk by Bandlab (formerly Sonar Platinum) is just more of a "drama queen" about such things, or might there really have been a "catastrophe" there? Thanks ?John B

What a pretty baby! So sorry for your loss. ?

I put so much time and effort into a music project between the writing, arranging, recording and finally mixing that by the time I'm done with it I'm completely tired of the new song. Does this happen to anybody else here and if so, how do you prevent it? Thanks ?John B.

".....lest we shun them!" It's really funny to me because I live close to Lancaster PA which is a major Amish area. I've seen many horses and buggies in my time. ?JB -
I always back up my projects to an external drive like a flash drive or an external USB drive. There are also cloud storage services. Then you can remove your big project folders from your main HDD and free up space. Since you do all audio your folders will be pretty big but external storage devices are getting bigger as well (in capacity, not physical size). ?John B.

You think like me politically. Your thoughts on the situations are pretty much like mine so you must be among the gradually declining class of people who still have some common sense and decency. And I did enjoy the Motown style horns. ?John B. "Can't we all just get along"? -Rodney King

I didn't even know they made/sold those Soundblasters anymore. Why open your PC if you don't have to. There is an easier way. But Hey, if that's how the guy wants to fly who are we to say he's wrong? As long as it makes him happy........ ?John B -
Speaking of decorum, it should be addressed how we respond to people who come on here to ask questions. I'm not naming names but there is one person who can be very abrasive in addressing posters who he believes are asking questions that (to him) aren't worth answering. Though he is very knowledgeable in matters that concern us here, common courtesy seems to be beneath him. So perhaps if we're addressing decorum we should add to always address people here with courtesy and respect and that no question is a stupid question. If you can't address somebody and answer their questions without common courtesy and respect please don't bother responding at all. ?John B Oh, and I do believe it's proper to say thanks to those who help (although I'm guilty of not always doing that. I will try to do better?)

One will do what one wants to do. For once, we agree. But you make somebody feel as if they have no right to come on to this forum and ask a ("such as ridiculous") question. That's what is relevant to this thread. The OP had a legitimate question (just like I did) and you use an accusatory attitude on him (just like you did me). All I'm saying is "Be nice". You don't have a problem with that, do you?! "Amish rake fight". I like that!? -

And I told you that I was beyond TRYING Cakewalk by Bandlab. I had been using it for several months but because I was in the midst of a project ( which you also made light of) and didn't want to chance having the program freeze on launch (which other people were experiencing at that time with that update). I just was going to hold off updating until the problem was solved. -

Yeah. Like you accuse me of not doing my own "testing" a few weeks ago just because I posted a thread asking if an update was safe. You didn't bother to look at the entire context of the initial post. You just assume that I was lazy and expected other people to do the "testing" for me. Nothing was farther from the truth. I really don't like the attitude of some people here. We're supposed to be a community to help each other. You claim 30000 posts and tutorials, but you are obviously not much of a people person, are you? I'm truly glad I don't know you in the real world. -
